  1. I have done 2 base jumps from a 220' bridge (exit to ground was 12 seconds) and a good friend of mine was a ranger and he told me some horror stories about S/L jumps in the military. I would take a base jump any day.

  2. Short of gross negligence...I have seen streamers develop from tension knots. Those can be caused by not being carefull with your lines and stowing them properly. A line can form a loop and catch around another line causing a tension knot and creating a massive ball of crap above your head. Thats one way to get em.

  3. I did the marker trick on mine and it doesnt work all the time...sometime the line twists and the marker is on the other side and it is a bitch to fix. I usually look at the P/C and make sure that it is cocked at least twice to ensure that it is cocked (the last time being right before I put the P/C in the BOC) So that may not work for you all the time. I have been told by a rigger that a P/C will work within 3 inches of the green line. That is the margin of error. Can anyone else confirm or deny this??? Definately ask your rigger and let us know what he says...thanks!

  4. Hey Freaksis!!!
I agree with you on the house techno. I saw Orbital with Crystal Method & Lo-Fi Allstars in NYC when I was living there. As a rule of thumb you cant go wrong rolling in the sheets with a little house. A couple of other recommended DJs are Junior Vasquez (founder of the original Sound Factory), Danny Teneglia (pick up his Elements disc), DJ Skribble (yeah, it's the jackass from MTV, but this is when he was good) & Anthony Acid (MDMA volume I), anything mixed by Johnny Viscious, and DJ Keoki is pretty good too.

  5. I really wouldnt worry about it. I would suggest that you relate your potential new job to what it takes to skydive. For example, I sell technology so I said that skydiving has been able to give me control of high stress situations and it has made me fearless in sales (if i cant jump out of planes...I can certainly deal with technology sales). That sort of crap...sell yourself. Thats what they want to hear. If you want put me down as a referrence!!! I'll sell it for ya!!! Good luck.
The only negative comment I get is "We cant believe that we insure you..."

  6. short of lopping off 1/2 of a leg and an arm, i would really suggest relaxing. you are probably having an asymetrical body position so one side of your body may be tense. If you totally relax, your arms & legs should normally put you symetrical and thus stable. Try some relaxation techniques before you exit the plane. Give it a whirl and let us know how you do.

  7. Tool, Tom Jones, Marilyn Manson, Bootsy Collins, P-Funk, Journey, 6Gig, Rustic Overtones, Lou Rawls, Lou Reed, Kid Rock, Junior Vasquez, Seb Fontaine, DJ Keoki, Monster Magnet, Milli Vanili (the remix album-import), Nick Drake. This is what I have been listening to as of late.

  8. Yebo, 9 freakin weeks...another crappy thing is that my rig (the one that I am going to sell when I get my new one) is due for a repack at the end of this month. We are going to be jumping again mid April up here in New England with a new super otter and I dont feel like paying the extra 45 bucks to get a repack so I can jump it for a couple of weeks until I get my new rig. I am hoping that Sun Path has made a grave error and they will be sending it out to me within the next couple of weeks. There I go dreaming again...

  9. I ordered an Oddysee about a month ago and I have gone through the exact same decision. I had a sabre 150 and I was looking at getting something different. I jumped the spectre, thought it was fun. I filled out an order form for a Lotus (Brian Germaine's 9 cell slightly elliptical airlocked canopy) and then thought better about spending 1,600 bucks to be a test jumper. I was thinking about the safire, but I keep hearing really bad things about them from everyone I ask. People keep saying that I would hate it because it flares poorly, etc. Long story short, I ended up getting a Sabre 135. I haven't had any issues with the 150 so why should the 135 be different? I figured that would fly the sh*t out of this 135 and then move towards an elliptical 135 when I am ready...then, way in the future, downsize. That way I will be getting the most (3 different canopies) out of the Oddysee that I paid crazy cash for.
How long did it take you to get your Oddysee from the date that you ordered it??? They are telling me 9 weeks. I just cant wait!!!!

  10. Another thing that you may want to try is to not put a ton of pressure on the canopy when you are 's' folding it. I know that sometimes when the packjob isnt going as planned I can get a little worked up and fight harder with it. When you put excessive pressure on the canopy when it is 's' folded, it will shoot out on you more. The more pressure you put the more sliding you get, so you want to put enough pressure just to hold it there and not to have it squirt out. Good Luck

  11. Yeah, I would recommend just getting in your back first and then go into a tracking position. Think about it...If you are in a BellyTrack, you are less stable than an arched position just by the body position that you are in, right? So if you are in less of a stable position and you do an aggressive move into another less stable position, you are probably going to have issues with it right off the bat. belly to earth to your back to a track...that would be my recommended way to learn backtracking.

  12. I would pull it out to, just to look at it. Its your new rig, enjoy it!!! But if you arent into gawking at it, I would assume that it would be good to jump.

  13. I am currently waiting for my second rig, third main and it is absolutely brutal...I ordered all the bells & whistles and it is still almost a month away from being here...So its not only your first rig...its every rig that you get, you are going to be excited about...there is a little something that you have to look forward to.

  14. I totally agree, that is why i dont condone the use of beerkoozies...they tend to encourage the practice of holding onto a beer way to long...

  15. Here is my theory on light vs. dark beer: Let me preface that I will drink anything from Guinness to Milwaukee's Best. There is a time and place for every beer. Usually after a day of skydiving, I have been known to tip a few back.
When you are trying to catch a buzz you have to get so much alcohol in your system.
Typically the darker beers are higher in alcohol and will get you wrecked at a fairly good clip if you drink them at the same rate of a light beer.
Here is the problem: I usually find myself standing by a fire and the beer can tend to get warm quickly if you dont put them back in time. So if you find yourself by a bonfire you can do one of three things: 1)you can drink cold light beer and stay up longer or 2)you can drink cold dark beer and be facedown in the fire early or 3)you can drink warm dark beer. For me, warm dark beer isnt quite as refreshing as an ice dold Heineken. Or you can avoid this whole situation and drink whatever you want by just going to a bar, but then you have to solve the problem of getting back in one piece to skydive again...which is a whole separate issue in itself.

  16. I dont think that the ECPA would actually do the licensing. I think that it will be more like Olav's Dolphin Rating for his FreeFly school. The USPA doesnt care if you have the rating (as their policies stand), it would be a "yeah, i know what i am doing" sort of rating. Although, I really do think that canopy control should be further developed within the USPA curriculum in general. The ECPA would put on swooping contests & have classes & whatnot. I really dont think that they are going to license people.

  17. the video cost me 16 bucks in orlando because i didnt have time to pick one up before my tunnel time. I think that if you bring a tape there, they do it for free. It seems as though they are charging you the whuffo price...see if they can hook you up with a skydiver price. it is still worth it though. Very educational and extremely fun!!! Although if it is your first time in there...wear the kneepads that they offer you.

  18. It has been much, much worse for me. I did my first AFF jump July 1 of 2000 and I think that I have seen non-jumper friends maybe 10 times since...I am just spending so much time at the DZ. Now I really only talk to them on the phone or via email. They think that I have joined some sort of cult. Pretty funny! If they only knew...

  19. How long are your "flights"? I paid $285 for 1/2 hour (2 15 minute blocks for 2 of us) in Orlando...They usually rotate you in 2 minutes at a time, which was really nice...anything longer than 2 minutes, you start to get "sloppy". That included a coach. You should ask if they have a skydiver discount. Skyventure in Orlando did...it was only 15 bucks or something like that, but it pays for the video...

  20. I love Red Bull, that stuff rocks!!! It mixed nice with Ketel One, Grey Goose or your favorite liquor. I also hear that the new energy drink 180 is supposed to be really good as well.
