With the NSA monitoring stuff being classified Top Secret and this kind of thing being a "threat to national security", we have to admit that 'national security' is synonymous with 'embarassing' now. Things are now classified to hide them from the public because they are politically dangerous; NOT because they threaten OUR security, but because they threaten the security of the politicians.

Now? By this statement you have proven that you have never dealt with classified material ever. This behavior has been going on for DECADES. There is nothing new here. The government can do whatever the hell it wants as long as it can keep its secrets from the peasants. I'm just astonished how many people actually believe this "national security" BS that they are fed.

I hate to rehash this dead horse, but remember the "evidence" we had about Iraq having weapons of mass destruction and that we (the public) couldn't see that "evidence" because of "national security"? Or was it because there really wasn't any evidence at all.

  2. I honestly don't see it any different than when I have to go to the gas station after only 430 miles verses after my usual 460 miles between fill-ups. I don't get mad and bitch about the poor gas that I received - but maybe others do. But probably the more reasonable reason is the type of driving I did which caused the fewer miles between fill-ups. In a nutshell, I don't expect to get a consistent 458.3 miles from by tank of gas. So I don't see why a battery would be any different.

  3. I think the whole reluctance from a consumer's standpoint would go away if you did not purchase the battery in the car. Your purchase price would be for the car. The battery belongs to someone else. You pull into the station, you swap out the battery and pay for the cost of the recharge (for the new battery). Then it really doesn't matter if you swap out a 100% battery for an 85% battery. You didn't own the 100% battery in the first place. Don't like the 85% battery, pull into the station and swap it out again to get your 95% battery.

  4. I think $0.38/hr is more than adequate. Without actually reading the article and only going on what is posted here - mostly because I'm too lazy and frankly don't really care - they are getting paid during their training and learning a new profession.

When I was being trained for my profession, I was never paid $0.38/hr. As a matter of fact I had to pay the college I was going to money for them to train me! And I was paying them way more than $0.38/hr to train me. So they are learning a new trade and being paid for it. Win - Win.

  5. This is not a comment about ACH, but about posts like this and news reporting in general. I always find it funny that they all report numbers about how much this or that will cost without giving any reference numbers. Not one mention about what insurance would cost Jessica Sanford in the "private" sector. No mention if she had insurance before signing up on the marketplace. It actually implies that she didn't have insurance because:

Why didn't she have insurance before? Could it be that it was also to expensive?

  6. Listen to Ron. He nailed it pretty good - except for the part about Friendlies. They were so bad that they are no longer in business. Replaced by a Sunny's (SP?).

If you think you want to hang out at the DZ after the beer light comes on, read this again...

Locals normally jump like hell and then get off the DZ unless there is an event.

  7. I don't recall anyone saying that Obama sat down behind a computer and designed (or is hosting) the website. As a matter of fact, I don't recall anyone in government doing anything with the website. Didn't they contract the design out to a company? This appears to be more of a failure of the private sector than government...

  8. This is too easy:

    Kennedy

Men did walk in the moon.

This is false. Men walked on the inside soles of their boots. I don't remember seeing any video of photos of men walking barefoot on the moon. Or for that matter, I don't remember them digging caves in the moon so that they could walk in the moon.
    Kennedy

    Elvis is not still alive.

He may or may not be. I wasn't there to stick an icepick in his eyes at his funeral. But one thing is for sure, in another 70 years we can say for certain he is dead.
    Kennedy

AQ really did plan and execute 9/11 without US govt knowledge.

I would lay money on that someone in the govt knew something. The problem is that this information never made it to those that could do something about it.
    Kennedy

A missile did not strike the pentagon.

All depends on what your definition of a missile is. A plane could be considered a missile if it is used to damage a building for instance.
    Kennedy

A missile did not being down TWA 800.

Don't really know enough information to comment.
    Kennedy

    OJ was guilty.

This is absolutely false. OJ was found not guilty in a court of law. Now whether he was innocent or whether he did it or not is another question.
    Kennedy

    Boston was two idiot brothers.

I don't think they were idiots. Seems like they had a plan a successfully executed that plan. Nothing in my opinion suggests that they were idiots.
    Kennedy

The only psychological warfare from Montauk is having to deal with fuckwit Long Islanders.

Again not enough knowledge to comment.

  9. I say good for them (GM). Chevy should get out of the EV market. Stick with what they know - as you put it so well, trucks. Let others like Toyota, Tesla, etc. who actually know how to build an EV vehicle do it.

That way if the market decides that EV is the way to go in the future, Chevy will be bankrupt and out of business. Then we can stop all this futile posting about american automobile companies. Let the strong survive and the weak die out. I praise the demise of the Volt. More money for Toyota* by prius buyers like me. B|

    * to use in R&D for new and better prius cars.

  10. What you are opposing is a slippery slope. The next person will want to ban such words as "guns", "abortion", "Jews", "Christians", etc. Instead of banning words in a forum, I suggest we ban certain letters. That would make people really have to think if you couldn't use say the letter "g" in your posts.

I suggest we create a new forum and ban these letters:

    " a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z "

    Smilies will always be welcome...:)

--- so far, so good, right? everybody is on equal playing ground.

There is unrest in the forest,
There is trouble with the trees,
For the maples want more sunlight
And the oaks ignore their pleas.

    The trouble with the maples,
(And they're quite convinced they're right)
They say the oaks are just too lofty
And they grab up all the light.
But the oaks can't help their feelings
If they like the way they're made.
And they wonder why the maples
Can't be happy in their shade.

There is trouble in the forest,
And the creatures all have fled,
    As the maples scream "Oppression!"
And the oaks just shake their heads

So the maples formed a union
    And demanded equal rights.
    "The oaks are just too greedy;
We will make them give us light."
Now there's no more oak oppression,
For they passed a noble law,
And the trees are all kept equal
    By hatchet, axe, and saw.
