    base parents?

" Perhaps that she has a good point? " I think.....no, I know you're both right ( Tom ). She hasn't even done any research and her argument is already blazing hot ( that...and she's my mom). Although I don't believe base jumpers to be selfish in any way shape or form. Why do you think she has a good point? ( just for the sake of parley ). I posted this thread in hopes of further understanding the base psychology ( morals, values etc)...not to get ammo for an argument ( o.k that was my only disclaimer ). What are my views ( SkyDaemon ): I have told my gf that when we get a child I would leave the base community and all that it would encompass ( I have to become a member first). After having a child, ones actions do not only affect your life but your childs as well. Of course the child has no power to pick and choose it's parents therefore one could easily say " to bad, I may have a kid but I will do what I want ". Maybe true..... but the life of a child is so fresh. It should not be squandered, tarnished or poorly affected due to the life style, pass time ( whatever we individually classify base as..) of a parent. As a mature adult I would see it as my duty to ensure a father figure in my child's life. A healthy growing environment is far more significant then chasing my own dreams and passions ( not to say that a fatherless home is defective. I come from one myself ). Death could greet you at any given time. You could die driving in your car ( I agree w/ Lonnie ). The issue here is that driving is mandatory for most fathers.....base is not. Why turn up the heat in an already burning sauna. * Ideally, when I have kids I would quit and take it up again when my partner and I would feel as if the kid/s are mature enough to decide and direct their own actions. Jumping with young kids at home would surely make me feel selfish but without kids I see nothing selfish in living the life I think I was meant to live * Godspeed.... base parents?

How many base parents do we have out there? I haven't taken the plunge yet but I'm working on it ( about three years....hey, at least I'm honest ). I had a minor quarrel w/ my mother regarding base jumpers being narcissistic. Argument being that, prior to engaging in such dangerous endeavors, one should think of all of the people who love them. She doesn't think that parents should base jump, she thinks it's selfish! I don't know what to tell her... monarch!!!

I guess I should have clarified the DOM. I believe the canopy might be from the late eighties ( has a nose like a sabre) I had heard that they were notorious for hard openings. First off, I want to know if I should prepare for some slammers ( really nothing I can do about that). If this canopy does give hard openings, what can I do to slow it down ( big slider, pocket slider...)? Or is it all about the way you pack it? It seems to me that some jumpers have had nothing bad to say about them and some despise them ( could be packing related though..) WHY??? Thanks!! monarch!!!

What's up everyone.... Can anyone tell me anything about the old monarch canopies? Hard openings, horrible to fly....anything? I have just recently purchased a monarch 155 from Action Air Parachutes. Good lines and great condition. It was inspected before the purchase but I would just like to know what everyone else has to say about them! Godspeed... 9. I was told that 9 cells give good performance ( 7 cells as well). I was also told that 7 cell mains can give harder landings? Basically what I'm after is the pros and cons of the two types..... I know a hefty amount of you can answer this with your eyes closed so giver.....please! 10. shit Bobby! I just got a reply from the seller. I demanded more info regarding the overall system, usage and more.... it was being jumped in the states somewhere nice and hot. Thanks for the heads up partner! Why are good F-111 so hard to find? I guess a zp is the way to go.... 11. good to know...I would have never known about that. I guess if you don't ask, how would you know. When purchasing a F-111 main, is the number of jumps under the rig crucial to the purchase. I had seen a dolphin rig with a pd 190, F-111 main with 400 jumps for sale for 1200 us but I figured that was to many jumps! ( no info, i.e DOM or serial # listed ) Thanks for the insight! 13. I'm a 145lbs soaking wet. I am 5" 10 and it's for my first rig! It would be used quite a bit this summer! I will be getting my license a.s.a.p. when the season starts. I have 56 jumps to date.. DOM is not listed...can't be found! Traker "we can either clmib down...or take the 15 second express shuttle" ---- during a snow storm on a 1000 foot antenna
  14. What's up guys and dolls...... Just a quick question I know some of you could answer..... I have found a pd 190, F-111 main for sale with a 100 jumps! The seller is asking 300 us for the main.. Good deal...bad deal. Anyone? Traker "we can either clmib down...or take the 15 second express shuttle" ---- during a snow storm on a 1000 foot antenna
  15. When the season starts... I will be on that like white on rice dadio. At the end of last summer, I was told to practice and perfection left and right 360 ,front and back flips ,barrel rolls and tracking. I don't what else would need to be known for the test. Thanks for the heads up anyway... I appreciate it... Traker "we can either clmib down...or take the 15 second express shuttle" ---- during a snow storm on a 1000 foot antenna

  19. Buenos!!!! Babes.....welcome to the forums. I just started posting but I've been an avid reader..... I'm doing a road trip in summer to the states to bank in some jumps! Jumping + partying + dancing + you guys and me = BOOYAH!! Keep me posted in the summer and so will I! See you girls on the high side! 22. Amazon..... If my skydiving career ever amounts to anything of significance or if I win an oscar... you're getting a shout out! Thanks again for the help! That being said, I think I will get something along the lines of a zp, taperd 190 or something a little smaller. What do you think? Now, if you could furnish as to where Lost Prairie is, that would be awesome. As long as you guys can provide blue skies and cold beer, i'm there ( canadian beer of course!!! ) Traker "we can either clmib down...or take the 15 second express shuttle" ---- during a snow storm on a 1000 foot antenna
  23. To all of you crazy cats... Nothing but smooth benedictions for the links and the information..... My first post has proved to be extremely beneficial! I appreciate the help! When wing loading, would one in my position capitalize flying at 1.1? Is flying anything over one only optional after a bit more experience? I weight 145 soaking wet, so flying the saber 190 would make it .8 to 1.0. I had no troubles landing it and it wasn't as intimidating as I thought. Mr2mk1g and Phreezone: thanks for the incite and advice. There is a discerning edge and a feel of select knowledge from what I read. I don't consider b.a.s.e. jumping anytime soon..... just later! Mjosparky: I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba ( long bitter winters and hellishly hot short summers!) I haven't updated my profile yet.... 24. Amazon..... You're a doll! Tank you..... Now....I think you know what the next question is. Eliptical or taperd? What are the advantages, which is better for what. What do you fly and why? I know it's a lot of questions... I just feel like I missed the bus and I have to catch it before someone notices I'm not there!! 25. In regards to student jumps. There really weren't any actual student jumps where we landed and then fully evaluated on our performance. No classes or anything have ever been offered to each us the inner most workings of the systems or even the simplest!
