Hey everyone!!! I have narrowed down my choices of new canopy between a 99 crossfire 2 or 99 Neos. Looking to demo both, most specifically the Neos. Other people at my dz have crossfires. Hey Daniel, Thanks for the reply. Been so long since i posted, forgot to mention some stuff. My weight is 163 lbs (it) + 20 lbs gear so my loading on the 120 storm is a bit above 1.5 I have taken one canopy course and plan on taking one with alter ego in z hills in the winter. Approaches are 90 with fronts and planing out with rears and finishing with toggles. I have initiated a few 270 s but feel as thought the storm is not the right canopy for said maneuvers. I do anywhere between 10- 20 jumps a weekend. Tandems, video or wingsuit/ tracking. Will be keeping the storm for the wing suiting. I do have some real good swoopers at my dz. Everyone was telling me to go crossfire but the most experienced guy thinks i should get a 99 neos. Hey all! I am planning on downsizing. Thinking of either getting a CF2 or Neos. I have been getting mixed reviews from everyone. On one hand I hear the CF is an excellent canopy to learn, dial in swoop skills but then some very experienced swoopers also told me that a Neos would be better because is has a longer recovery arc then a CF and is semi cross braced. A little bit about me. I have 1200 jumps + 300 Base, TI, D license, Instructor rating, videographer. Coming in with my present canopy pretty quickly. Recovery Arc is pretty short because its a 7 cell 120 storm. Never thought i would start swooping in but i guess thats what happens after years of shooting tandems!!! Canopy progression has been 155 monarch, 135 sabre, 135 sabre 2, Storm 120. I have tried stilettos, CF, Safires and Katanas. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!! 1) Of course it cannot be guaranteed that a toggle will not be missed. It's BASE jumping...I don't think anyone is or ever was in a position to guarantee anything. Things happen. A bad throw, a lazy throw, a bridle wrap, a missed toggle, a missed riser...no one is 100 % consistent. 2) Again...the goal is not to say which is better (defending your opinion on toggles or risers)...simply to show what can be done. If someone does not possess the skills they probably shoudln't use these maneuvers as their plan A. But given the right circumstance (i.e. training at the Prine)...they can train and like I said....aspire to be that quick and eventually become that quick! 1) I am aware that a lot of people have different opinions on the subject. I already have an opinion....hence my post! I am not a toggle guy or a riser guy. The goal is not to pick risers over toggles or vice versa...simply to show people what is possible. My opinion is that both toggles and risers can be usefull depending on the situation. By showing this info it lets people form their own opininons instead of hearing the same things over and over again. 2) I have seen the video of that particular accident numerous times. Again....the goal is not to pick one over the other. Nonetheless, a riser can be missed just like a toggle. 3)The other video "toggle training" contains slider down jumps. I believe they speak for themselves... 4)the wind conditions in the toggle training video were extremely minimal (if any). I emailed Johhny Utah and asked him to put video of what he was doing during BASE Camp. These videos demonstrate how the use of toggles can minimize forward movement during and after opening while doing a heading correction. These videos also show how quickly the canopy can be turned with minimal altitude loss with the use of toggles. Almost every time heading needs to be corrected, I have done the maneuver I described. Furthermore...Myself and some friends have seen it done as well. Video is available. Of course you may have some drive at first in between the time you grab your toggles or risers. I guess if we are gonna be picky, then forward drive isn't fully eliminated....if you're too slow! FINAL NOTE: IF YOU ARE FAST ENOUGH ON YOUR TOGGLES AND ARE DIALED IN ....FORWARD DRIVE WILL NOT EXIST ANYMORE THEN IF YOU WERE USING YOUR RISERS! I was taught to pull both risers or toggles (depending in wether or not you are a toggle or riser person) down which will stop the canopy. thereafter you snap one arm down and the other one up (depending on which way you want to turn). When executing this you will eliminate forward drive. Therefore it is very possible! I am a riser guy at the moment but I am training to be on toggles primarily. Once you are fast enough and confident on your toggles...I believe they are the better option!
