  1. yes thats fine but that won't work for smaller operations I would guess thats probably at least 50%. So I don't know. I think if it were able to happen it would be better I really don't see the faa or few dz's doing that though

  2. as posted earlier cycles no matter how often cannot catch abuse and neglect, or ignorrance. I think jump number inspections would probably be better but would be a lot harder to keep up with everyone and their logbooks and such. Once again something could happen in this time so I guess it is somewhat of a catch 22 for idiots who don't take care of their stuff. I really think six month cycle would be a good deal. You are right with some points you have made and I think it will get better in time. Since we are working with the faa, you know.

  3. if you sweat while wearing you rig that much the reserve material can start to stick together. We had a kid who had not had his packed in a year and when it was repacked my friend had to let it sit overnight for the material to become unstuck. It may be an idea to have it serviced every so many jumps but some make more than others and is not as easily monitored as would be month to month.

  4. bonehaed mindwarp is nice, rawa w camera or without is really comfy and has plenty of padding that is what I would have if i did not get my mindward for 100 bucks brand new almost.

  5. you are aware that the US military is on a 180 day cycle. I jumped in the military for a few years. They are about as meticulous as you could get, and if they trust it I don't see why I couldn't. I support the 180 cycle there are just not enough reasons to keep the 120, it is pretty well useless. Everyone has just got to many what if questions and superstitions. DO you think you will be more safe becasue it is inspected more? I don't. It just takes once and you may not know when that once will be 120 or 180 days. It is useless and I think the FAA may finally be catching on to that.

  6. I sold my javelin for a vector three. Problems I have had with it was the main flap would almost always come open in a sit and was not tight at all. It also rode really high on my back making me miss my hackey a couple of times. It was also pretty rigid fitting. The voodoo's comfort is great, solid design, will leave money in your pocket at the end. Like I said i like the vectors myself, but if I got an extra rig it would be either a voodoo or infinity. Not a fan of javelin there design is virtually unchanged for years, it needs some change.

  7. screw em. They are obviously are retarded. Once again this gives people who jump smaller canopies a bad name, guys who are really good and have a brain and some sort of humility would encourage you to jump what ever you want. You are making the right decision by sticking with that canopy. Just try to be the bigger person and blow them off.

  8. nice and clean may open better than a trash pack but maybe not. If it gives you peace of mind then do that, you will find in time with the way you pack and the way your canopy reacts, on what to eleminate and what not to in your packing methods. The SOB will open more or less no matter what, it is all personal preference: peace of mind, way it opens, canopy wear, line wear. The rigger who taught me said the only reason that you flake all your lines mostly is because of wear on the canopy because mostly what you do to it does not matter if it will open. I have seen guys who pack perfect have nasty mals, and have seen many myself included pack fast and not even that clean and not have any mals. all what makes you comfy thats all.

  9. I agree I don't like the whole business first thing either it usually just depends how far they take as to wether I will jump there or not. What I don't liek though and we may just be looking at it differently is that charging huge amounts for small amount of work is well. I wouldn't pay you but once for that and would walk away before if I could. Basically the service you are providing is not keeping up with what the customer gets. You can charge whatever you want, but don't be surprised when someone laughs about how much you want. That is what I did and went elsewhere foe the time being and then got my own ticket. I do not like to be dependent on others becasue money always seems to get in the way. I also do not do this for any major income and never will.

  10. your thinking too far into it, a few here a few there and I jump when I'm at the dz i don't visit so it would more than likely be afterhours or on my own time. Favors go pretty far you might surpise yourself. All these 1 minute fixes for outrageous amounts of money is bull, I am a rigger too a lot of what I do is cheap or free. People forgot about the good ole' barter system.

  11. I like the whole pay it forward at the dz idea. It was done for me free packing classes, rubber bands, closing loops which is a good investment could save thousands on sheet metal work to their aircraft. This was given to me because they loved the sport and shared that with me so I do that sort of thing for others. Once again they don't really care unless they can make money off of someone.

  12. I pack in five minutes man so I know what you are talking about, but the person is new, I am not going to give them the same advice I would give an experienced person for packing their speed will come, some quicker than others but it will.

  13. I think that $5 for a closing loop is retarted, although I know that was not your point. Skydiving is expensive enough as is we do not need to nickel and dime each other anymore than need be. My point is I wouldn't make yourself so accessible to everyone who wants stuff for free. Or maybe say hey I don't have any closing loops, or maybe just say you really aren't in the mood to fool around with it. I am sure you already know that. I just get sick and tired of people always thinking of "how can I make a quick buck off this guy" It is quite needless. I think that a lot of people have taken an attitude of, well I make fifty an hour at work so I should get at least fifty an hour doing this repack or whatever the case may be. Ones job outside of skydiving has no bearing on what skydiving related items or work costs. THis is directed at everyone not at you alone so don't take it the wrong way, I just feel that it needs to be said

  14. if you pro pack, after you have flaked a b c and d lines, simply find your steering lines and pull them carefully to the center. When cocooning take and put your knee so that no lines come around when you are bringing the tail around to wrap the tail. When you are rolling the excess tail do not roll and roll too much because that can cause your brake lines to come around as well. Simple phrase to remember is lines in the center and material to the outside. You will find the more experience you get and the better you know your canopy the less there is to packing then what you may have thought. I would have a rigger just watch you pack and tell you what is necessary and what is a waste of time.

  15. I think that either more dz's turn into clubs to keep the costs down or dz's go after the volume and not gouge the few customers they do get, once again keeping costs down for most all. It is very expensive to do, I am a full time student as well so I do know how that can be. I would like to see more owners like Bill Dause of parachtue center in california. Last I checked his cost was still only $15 to 13,500. He runs multiple turbines as well. Little more like that could go a long way. Everyone is trying to cash in on the extreme sport idea as said earlier by another. For the love of the sport huh? I don't think very many embrace that, although they should. A lot need to check their reasons for jumping. Did I do this to make money or to HAVE FUN. Help some people out, have fun with new guys show them your passion for it. I always heard about how much back in the day people would just have fun and not worry about cost really, and how everyone had THE fever to jump! I rarely see that and it is sad for most experienced people who want to jump and get others involved if they have the chance. What I see now is, well I won't make any money off of you so I don't really care if you get up or not. We all have businesses to run thats a given but how much do you really need to make off your fellow jumper, REALLY.

  16. you are right, but the simple fact is that this is a risky sport. You don;t like it then quit. All these rules regs and crap are just jacking up the money for us to skydive. If you don't want to risk your life simply don't skydive. Leave the skydiving industry alone it is REALLY expensive as is. I think if the FAA crap goes through later this year then 80% of us unless we make a ton of money are screwed anyways. You could hurt yourself walking. Should there be more walking laws. I just heard the other day that they are going to require helmets for kids that wear the shoes that have rollers on the bottoms of them. Come on guys use your ffffing heads.

  17. I have not seen an instructor tell them to quit, but there are a few they should have told to quit. One almost died and now has her license and has hurt herself couple of times and barely jumps enough to stay current. That is pretty scary to me.
