  1. Doug, You have some interesting beliefs about the Mormon religion. I appreciate your views, but the bottom line is that you are misinformed. I posted a link in the first post in this thread. You might want to check it out. I will entertain your thoughts, but please ask questions. It is somewhat impolite for you to profess what my beliefs are, considering that you don't know what is really going on in my head. Joseph Smith was the founder of the Mormon religion. He was the first prophet of the Mormon church. The Mormons believe that the holy priedthood was restored to the earth through JS. He was a good man, but is not worshipped in the LDS faith. Jesus Christ is the Messiah. He suffered and died on the cross so that the gates of heaven could be opened, and man might be saved. Through the atonement, Jesus took upon himself the sins of this world so that God could be merciful, and we could be forgiven. That way we could return to our Heavenly Father after this mortal life. The Book of Mormon is not a second Bible. It is another testament of Jesus. It is the history of a group of people that left Jerusalem, and came to a "new world". From here, I ask that you say what you believe to be true about your religion, and not what you believe is false about the mormon religion. I do not claim to know what you believe. I do not claim that I am right, and you are wrong. I know what I believe. But, I think that your last post was in poor taste. Please ask questions. I think that you fear what you dont know. 2. Dave, I completely agree. The primary purpose of the Armed Forces is to prepare for and to prevail in combat should the need arise.
  3. Johnny, From my understanding Porter Rockwell was a close friend of Joseph Smith. He was Smith's bodyguard for a while. After Joseph Smith death, Porter Rockwell gained notariety for being a gunman. From my understanding he was considered a zealot by today's standards. But then again he was just standing up for what he thought was just and true. A couple of articles that I found online: http://www.media.utah.edu/UHE/r/ROCKWELL,ORIN.html http://www2.ida.net/graphics/shirtail/orrin.htm tell me what you think Josh The primary purpose of the Armed Forces is to prepare for and to prevail in combat should the need arise.
  4. Johnny, I think that it is funny when people point out the bad apples in each crowd and claim that the group is just like them. That is the 'guilt by association' thought process. I don't know a whole lot about Porter Rockwell. I am sure that I could do some more research and find out about him. But that wouldn't prove to me that the gospel of Christ is wrong, just that this guy lost his focus some where along the way. Just to point out another couple of zealots that lost focus. The Lafferty brothers are currently serving life sentences for murdering another one of their brother's wife and infant child. There are plenty of examples in any religion of people losing faith. For example, the scandal that occured recently in the Catholic Church. Think about that for a minute or two if you would. 5. Dave, There are arguments that could be made both for or against any one religion. My comment is directed toward the definition of faith. You quoted the bible saying: The definition is perfect. I know that the Lord exists. I know that Jesus died on the cross so that the gates of heaven could be opened. I know that Jesus took upon the sins of the world so that God could be merciful and forgive us of our many sins and shortcomings. I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. I know that there are modern day prophets on the Earth. You are going to say how do I know these things? Well, let me quote from the Book of Mormon. Moroni Chapter 10, verses 4-7. Those can be found online at http://scriptures.lds.org/moro/10 That pretty much means that anyone can experience personal revelation. Which also means that I cannot prove how I know the things that I know. You have to be willing to put in the work and have the faith to get the answers that you are looking for. 8. Dave, I assure you that the LDS religion is very much a Christian faith. I singled it out because I follow that particular one, and wondered how many other skydivers did as well. As far as theological debate, start a thread, and i will keep up as best I can. I am not as versed as some, but I know a thing or two. 9. Sorry about the improper wording. I always screw up the details. Here is an excerpt from http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=agnostic ag·nosti·cal·ly adv. Word History: An agnostic does not deny the existence of God and heaven but holds that one cannot know for certain whether or not they exist. The term agnostic was fittingly coined by the 19th-century British scientist Thomas H. Huxley, who believed that only material phenomena were objects of exact knowledge. He made up the word from the prefix a-, meaning “without, not,” as in amoral, and the noun Gnostic. Gnostic is related to the Greek word gnsis, “knowledge,” which was used by early Christian writers to mean “higher, esoteric knowledge of spiritual things” hence, Gnostic referred to those with such knowledge. In coining the term agnostic, Huxley was considering as “Gnostics” a group of his fellow intellectuals“ists,” as he called themwho had eagerly embraced various doctrines or theories that explained the world to their satisfaction. Because he was a “man without a rag of a label to cover himself with,” Huxley coined the term agnostic for himself, its first published use being in 1870. That should give a better definition. 11. Since it is Sunday I was wondering how everyone else out there is worshiping today. We all have different beliefs, it helps to understand the person if you can understand their beliefs. 19. It is inevitable that jobs will go to the lowest bidder, whether it be here in the USA, or overseas. It has to happen in order for capitolism to thrive. The problem is that the rest of the world isnt going to achieve a higher standard of living fast enough to benefit the USA. What is going to happen will be a recession in the USA as we wait for the rest of the world to catch up. Not neccesarily a bad thing, just a thing. The good news is that eventually it will sort itself out, and the world will be a better place. It sucks short term for the USA, but like I said in my earlier post,"there has to be world growth in todays economic atmosphere". The primary purpose of the Armed Forces is to prepare for and to prevail in combat should the need arise.

  22. I assume that from your post that you have been one of the people to lose their jobs from this outsourcing. I feel bad for you, but it doesnt change life. Life in the IT world appears to be extremely volatile. I would think that it would be better to get job training in another field and make yourself more saleable(sp?). My point is this, these corporations hire(purchase) employees(products). When they are not recieving a premium product for the premium price that they are paying, they change the product they are buying. That is no different than you buying a cheaper product anytime that you go to the store. The difference is that you got caught in the premium price catagory. It is easy for the corporations to determine that it is more cost effective to go to a lower standard of product and still accomplish the task at hand. It is not hard to understand this thought process. If I were the owner of a business and I could save(make) a couple of dollars by buying my cheaper products I would. It is how the system works. The second thing that I would like to comment on is your idea that not outsourcing is a good idea. The world economy is a very real thing. You have to remember that without us bringing the rest of the world to the same standard of living that we enjoy, eventually we will suffer from over-production. It is a simple scenario of supply and demand. Several years ago there was idea tossed around that all jobs should be kept within the home country, and that the government should regulate all the companies. That guy was Karl Marx(Do I need to say more?). There has to be world growth in todays economic atmosphere. DO I think that it sucks? Hell yes, but that doesn't change the inevitable. The third point that I would like to make is concerning the article about WA state. How much money are they saving by outsourcing? How much of that money is transferred back to other programs in the state government? How many jobs would it create by not outsourcing? Would there be a competitive company locally to fill the orders? What makes you think that the jobs wont end up in TX as opposed to WA, esp if TX has a company more competitive than any local company. Finally, I would like to point out that there is a solution to your situation. The question is; are you willing to put up with the increased output that will be expected of you from your employer? The solution would be to downsize the amount of personnel, and increase workloads.....probably for less pay. That will keep the jobs in the US. Tell me what you think. Would it be worthwhile to you to do this? Josh The primary purpose of the Armed Forces is to prepare for and to prevail in combat should the need arise.

    Patriotism

As I recall you started in on me. And come to find out it had nothing to do with my views, it had everything to do with yours. In 2 different posts you stated that you had an agenda that was outside the laws of the land, therefore accusing everybody of having a desire to break the law. You are wrong....Not me. Now, it is ridiculous to continue on with this post and more especially you. I am serving my country in the US Army. I am serving in the country of Iraq. DO NOT QUESTION MY PATRIOTISM. I have done my part. All you have done is bitched about one thing or another that people have had to say. Until you put forth some effort to serve the country, you do not have the right to question anything I say as far as my patriotism goes. If I want to buy a piece of land and burn it to the ground, as long as I am within the laws of the land, then it is my right. You then proceeded to fill an entire post with strongly opinionated drivel. You did not once state a fact. Therefore placing yourself outside the realm that you have stepped on several of us for being inside of. It could have been just as easily said about my initial post that it was my opinion that I could do anything that I wanted on my land. Oh, and by the way, what happens when you don't follow the laws of the land? Oh, thats right, you end up in jail. So if I had any intention of enjoying the property that I worked so hard to possess, it wouldn't be smart to break the laws. But, I figure as a college professor you would be able to see that. The primary purpose of the Armed Forces is to prepare for and to prevail in combat should the need arise.

    Patriotism

As far as I understand, you believe that everyone in the USA is not a law abiding citizen. Am I correct? If you believe (for the most part) that American citizens are law abiding, then I shouldn't have to put a disclaimer on every single word that I post here. Should I put a disclaimer on my initial post that says: Only consider this statement if you are a law-abiding citizen, all others disregard. Would the disclaimer make it easier to swallow? It seems to me that there is an underlying motive in your thought process. My question for you is what is it that you want to do on your land, that according to laws you cannot do? Because the last time I checked, I am a law abiding citizen of the USA. It is implied, as a law abiding citizen that I will continue to be as such. Once again, you are correct. But, I am trying to understand what your point is. I even went so far as to tell you what I intended on doing with "my" land and you still have the desire to poke large holes in something that was pretty self explanatory. If you could help me to understand what you are trying to say, I can help you to understand what I meant. So please break it down to the most elementary way possible. The primary purpose of the Armed Forces is to prepare for and to prevail in combat should the need arise.
