  1. Langar which is my DZ in the UK, was a Lancaster base during WW2. They lost over 250 aircrew and I often think of these guys who took off from the same runway as I am doing but did not return. We had the last remaining UK flying Lancaster do a flypast a couple of years to commemorate the construction of a memorial that had been erected. There are some good photos in the control tower cafe of Langar over the years. It finished up as a canadian transit airbase for equipment being shipped into Germany in the 1950's and 60's.
  2. Any guys from Langar going to the Empouria boogie in March?
  3. Why not download the manual by the company who manufactured the canopy, IE Performance designs. What has Icuras canopies got to do with the Sabre2.
  4. I told my mother one freezing cold January day that i was going down to my local DZ to throw myself from a perfectly good aircraft at 13000ft, she warned me to be careful because " the roads are icy " LOL
  5. Speak to Scotty Milne at Langar he runs regular courses at Empuria Brava.I've jumped there great facilities and nice people loads of lifts.
  6. Had my first spanking from my Sabre1 today,i've done around 60 jumps on it and it has around 200 in total.I've not had any real problems just an occasional brisk opening.Deployed Stable and had slowed down from a 3 sec track after a FW dive.Normally after opening it takes a couple of seconds to feel the snatch, but this was instant after throwing the pilot chute.Canopy turned 90 degrees to the right taking my torso with it and crossed the risers over, nearly bit through my tongue and i think i still have all my verterbrae.I Pulled the risers apart and cleared the twist and gave the canopy a good look to ensure the opening hadn't caused any cell damage.Everything was OK and i landed without incident. But that hurt hope it was only a one off.
  7. I think gear checks are important, evrybody is human ( i think ) and people do make mistakes, so a second pair of eyes to give you a look over before you leave for the aircraft is good. I was jumping at a dz in Spain last summer and an instructor came running past myself and the dz controller to catch a lift that was just about to leave, the dz controller shouted him back and during packing he had left his pullthrough in the closing loop with the pin through it. Had that been in the uk it would have been picked up straight away.

    going low

Sorry perhaps 400ft was a little bit of an over exageration on my part, i should maybe a builder with estimations like that. However thanks for everybodys advise and it may be a good idea to close this thread before any more jumpers get into an arguement. Blue skies Stefd

    going low

I have only recently started jumping with groups larger than 3 or 4 and have no problems with these as we can stay linked as we exit.Since i have been with a couple of larger groups i found the problem as you mention that on exit i get seperated and have to swoop down a little and am not quite slowing down enough and this is taking me slightly past the group, but as they are linked there fall rate is slower. As for trying to rejoin the group i have my body dearched as if being over a large beachball with my head on on side looking at the group. I know the reason why i go low ( but thank you) and was just seeking advice.I should obviously speak to my instructors and shall when i am next at Langar.

    going low

If during a formation dive of say 6 jumpers and you go low part way through the dive let's say 7000ft you realise that no how large you make yourself that you will not make it back to the group. You have a visual of the group above you say 400ft and the agreed break off for the group is 4000ft and wave pull at 3000ft at what point of the dive would you start to track away yourself so that you are not going to be a hazard for the jumpers above you?
  12. I'd done about 30 jumps and told my mother that i was going over to Langar skydiving one day,the weather was cold and the roads icy.She was more concerned about my journey to langar than the fact that i was jumping out of an aircraft at 13000ft!
  13. I have a sabre 170 and have 30 jumps on it now, the first jump on it after i had it back from my rigger when it was hooked up and my reserves six monthly was as hard as hell and i wondered if i had made a good decision buying a sabre. But after reading previous threads on here i pack mine with the nose rolled 4+4 and the center cell exposed and the slider pulled all the way forward, i've had no probs with this and the openings have been fine.
  14. Any idea what kind of a figure that DH is moving the jump prices upto?
  15. Try Dirtdive.net, they have lots of classifieds for the uk ,they currently have 56 rigs on their.Good hunting.
