    Shit Happens . . .

See if you can spot the mistake in the attached advert I created for Rigging Innovations.

A month or so after it was published in PARACHUTIST I was reading the issue while sitting on the toilet when I spotted the blunder. I crapped myself but luckily I was sitting where I was sitting . . .

I didn’t catch the mistake, nor did R.I. or PARACHUTIST.

Also, there was a post earlier that highlighted "it's" in an ad as wrong, but I think that was right cuz that is being used as a possessive, no? ("It's" meaning belonging to it.)

Ok, I must have too much free time today! :D

  5. Kathleen,

    You go girl!! :)
I was fortunate enough to do my training from an Otter. But when I had about 40 jumps I went to a new dz where they only have a C-182. Man, I hated trying to exit from that thing! :D It definitely didn't help that it was raining! On my first attempt I couldn't get a grip on the wet strut, so I just dove out. On my 2nd attempt I got ahold on it, but I ended up hitting the step with my rig. It was quite a jolt. When it came to pull time I was thinking "gee, hope the container stays attached when this thing comes out!";) :S Fortunately, it was fine and no damage was done to my rig. But I can't imagine hitting that step with my body, let alone my face! Ouch! [:/]

The experienced jumpers at that dz told me I hit the step because I didn't slide out far enough along the strut. They said to grab ahold as far down as I could, so when I step off I will be clear of it (to the side). The weather got worse so I didn't get to try again that day. But next season I will be heading back there to get that damn strut exit down. :)
Good luck in the rest of your training.

p.s. You will love it when you get in an aircraft with a big door, nothing in front of you but the big blue sky. B|

I think for every student helped by such videos, there would be several needlessly distracted, as you suggest.

I was plenty jacked up by the end of the FJC. Made even worse by getting weathered out and having no release. A carnage video would have contributed nothing useful.

I completely agree 100%. I was plenty aware (i.e. totally freaked) that I could die doing this on my 1st jump. Seeing that video would've just made me more upset, which wouldn't have made me any safer. (BTW, I didn't have to watch any crashes/see fatality pics in drivers ed.)

  7. Software developer here. Love the field but hate my job. Currently active in trying to get a better one.

But even though I hate it, it does pay for my very expensive hobby. I'm thankful that I don't have to live on ramen noodles to skydive. :)

  8. Wow, that sounds exactly like my C-182 experience! Except in mine, I DID practice the exit, but STILL had trouble hanging on! I, too, gave up and just dove out. ;) But in my defense, it was also raining out which made it 100x more unpleasant. I am planning on going back to that dz so I can try it again on a nice day.

I don't think its a coincidence that the grad ceremony is during Halloween -- no way we can get a respectable picture from that! ;) But, Mike, you were an even bigger geek for not dressing up!!:P;)

  10. I just had my first plane ride down last weekend.

My jumping buddy did a pin check on me and couldn't tell if my pc was cocked. I was pretty sure it was, but better safe than sorry. So I got to ride down with Rook in the cockpit. It was actually a very nice ride, quite interesting being on final in an airplane instead of under canopy! :)
When I got down I discovered that my pc WAS cocked, the color was just outside the window. Oh well.

    I've got you guys beat!

Dave was my first TM, and my instructor for most of my AFP jumps.

Steve flew camera for my first tandem video.

Jenny flew camera for my friend who did her first tandem with me on my second.

And Sarah was my coach for the New Wave Boogie.

    So there! ;):P:)

I know a few people at Walgreen's corporate (non-technical) and they love working there. I wish that you get the position, although it will likely mean that your PWing days here are over.

Thats okay if I can't PW anymore. I would much rather be doing work I enjoy than trying to get thru the day by surfing. :)

So what companie you going to work for?

Right. I like that attitude. No maybe, I AM going to work for them. ;) It's Walgreens corporate. They have a massive software development operation, they do all their own stuff in-house. Lots of opportunites and awesome benefits.

Right now I work for a tiny little software company with shitty benefits and no advancement potential. Yuck. And they treat everyone like shit. >:(

  16. OMG, I am so excited, I can hardly stand it!! I have been applying to this company for over 3 months. They have the perfect opportunity for me, and I love their corporate culture, too.

THEY FINALLY CALLED!! I CAN'T FUCKING BELIEVE IT!! It was my last cover letter, she loved it!! She said it was great that I was so passionate about the company even before working there. B| She thinks I am an excellent fit for the position and is going to talk with the manager.

Ok, I MUST get this job!! I've gotta get out of this shithole where I am! Everyone please send me lots of good luck vibes!!!

    WOO-HOO!!! They finally called!!! :)

I'm no longer a two digit midget B|. After being stuck at 98 for the last month due to weather or work, I finally got out to the DZ. Made 3 really fun jumps. Did one 2 way, and two 4 ways. A little bit of fall rate problems on all 3 but man did if feel good to get back in the air. A special thanks to everyone at Indiana Skydiving Academy for making me feel like one of their own and making my first 100 jumps an absolute blast B|

YEA!!!!!! U MADE IT!!!!!!! B|B|B|B| Congrats!! Glad you got some good ones in!! :)
Next season I'm gonna catch up to ya! ;)

For the record, I had 2 awesome jumps yesterday! Did a kick-ass 3-way with Joe and AJ and we ROCKED!! (My best dive yet!) B| Then a pretty decent 4-way after that. Unfortunately, didn't get a 3rd in cuz I had to ride the plane down. But thats okay, better safe than sorry and I really enjoyed the 2 jumps I did get. :)
Now I'm soooooo ready for my VACATION!! Only 4 more days and I'll be in sunny Florida, woo-hoo!! B|

Oh, how could I forget! I actually got laid this weekend, too, so life is good. B|

Did you really pay $60 to use a demo canopy that the DZ had, or were you renting a canopy? There is a difference. For instance, the Squares (1,2, and 3) will rent you a canopy, but if you are demo'ing, looking to buy, it is free.

Well, thats what I am trying to figure out. I think they basically treated this more like a rental. I didn't tell them that I was looking to buy one. It was definitely cheaper than renting an entire rig from them so I guess thats fine. But I think maybe they should just say its a rental instead of charging for a demo, since it sounds like most of the fee for a demo is usually to cover shipping, which doesn't apply in this case.

In that case if you'd have gone direct to PD for a demo you would have had to pay shipping on the canopy anyway - which would have brought the total paid up to the same as you paid for the local Icarus demo price.

Ah well... hope you liked the canopy though.

Ok, thats cool. I did like it!! Very nice openings! I don't wanna give it back now... ;):P
