  1. Frap hats were worn by both TI and student. I got a strong urge to fly, but I got no where to fly to. -PF
  2. Have him send the gear directly to *your* DZ. You will not need to send half the money, if he needs you to send money for shipping than so be it. Your rigger or DZO is now responsible for that gear, so (s)he sure as hell isn't going to let you walk away without paying. There is also a verifiable name that is receiving the gear. This is pretty standard procedure. Do understand that unless he grossly misdescribed the gear, then you are responsible for shipping both ways if you don't like it. 3. I got a bike...if that fails, I'll walk there!!! If I break a leg, then I guess that it was just not meant to be. I got a strong urge to fly, but I got no where to fly to. -PF
  4. I live a whole 10 miles from Rantoul....how could I *not* be there. I got a strong urge to fly, but I got no where to fly to. -PF
  5. The pilot in me says that I would probably go for the tree, as cross wind landing with turbulence from 20-25 knot winds sounds like a canopy stall waiting to happen. Btw, I think the word you were looking for is the wind was gusting. I got a strong urge to fly, but I got no where to fly to. -PF
  6. I heard weather was bad, so they did a tandem instead of an AFF; two in fact. Is this true? I also heard he asked Gorbachev to come along with as he was there for the birthday bash, but Mikhail said he was too old for that. I got a strong urge to fly, but I got no where to fly to. -PF
  7. Haven't finished my Instrument rating yet but close. I basically made my PPL and IPL one training schedule. Given Instrument is just cross-country and instrument flying time, I had my CFI begin the instrument training as soon as I had done my first solo cross country. That way I didn't get to 20 hours and basically have nothing new left to learn in the air between then and my check ride; I was learning new stuff while perfecting that which I already knew. As has been said, if you aren't so good at cockpit management, then getting into instrument flying a little more slowly is a good thing, cause there can be a lot to do at any one time. But there is no reason to "practice" VFR for a long time before you start your instrument rating. I'm not sure if I agree with Paul's issue of hot summer days in a GA aircraft though. There is certainly a reason that I fly all my routes above 6K'. Always do my descents at 1200+ fpm, which even gets my CFI a little queasy. I'm too cheap to turn on my AC until the temperature is over 100, so instead I just go flying where it is 40 degrees colder! Which one flight ends up costing twice what my monthly power bill is! I got a strong urge to fly, but I got no where to fly to. -PF
  8. The video "Kinesthesia" is perfect for this stage. I watched it right off student status and learned tons about good RW body position. Ask around your DZ, as there is a good chance someone already has it. I got a strong urge to fly, but I got no where to fly to. -PF
  9. 0:20:3 That includes thursday afternoon jumping too. 20: 2/3/10/5 3: First 182 jump, first sit, B license I got a strong urge to fly, but I got no where to fly to. -PF
  10. I did a 4-way scramble out of caravans immediately off student status. All four jumps launched a meeker and not a single went badly. Just be sure rear float falls off and pulls towards the ground as to keep diver from falling over and funeling. If it isn't obvious, you'll have three out and one diver. I got a strong urge to fly, but I got no where to fly to. -PF
  11. I assume Gary is talking about the katana. see: http://www.performancedesigns.com/katana.asp I got a strong urge to fly, but I got no where to fly to. -PF
  12. Bought used (125 jumps on the main and 50 on the container) the day I did my A check dive. Didn't get to jump it until 30 though, because I used student gear for a 4-way scramble for 26-29. Why? Because those big student canopies are slow and boring. More importantly, renting isn't cheap. I'll use this gear for 200 jumps, which will pay off the rig, and then sell it to "down"-grade. I got a strong urge to fly, but I got no where to fly to. -PF
  13. As Joe said, the UofI skydiving club jumps down at Archway. There is a small DZ up at Paxton (25 miles), which I see them jumping a lot when I go flying, but I definitely recommend Archway. (would you rather jump a 182 or a caravan?) It looks like Shane jumps with the Pathetic Losers; they jump Paxton. I got a strong urge to fly, but I got no where to fly to. -PF
  14. Thanks! Tied for first in the 4-way, but ending up getting second on a coin toss. Got first in the novice category of the accuracy, only 5 or 6 jumpers though. Just jokin', I would much prefer learning to freefly anyway. I got a strong urge to fly, but I got no where to fly to. -PF
  15. On my 28th jump; had my own gear, but was in a 4-way scramble right off the A-check, so the DZO told me I could jump student gear. Managed to take out 2 end cells with the spring-loaded pilot chute. At first didn't notice I had a mal, but the stupid canopy kept taking hard left turns, so finally discovered my problem. Played around and discovered I could trim the canopy with about 3/4 break on my right toggle, but boy was my arm hurting when it came time for that final pseudo-flair/PLF. The funny part is I still made a proper landing pattern and only landed 50' from my target. I got a strong urge to fly, but I got no where to fly to. -PF
  16. Been lurking around here for a while, so figured I should register and actually start posting. Only been jumping for about two months, but already got 39 jumps, a 4-way scramble, and a sport accuracy competition under my belt. At this rate, I'll be in a wingsuit by 100! I got a strong urge to fly, but I got no where to fly to. -PF
