  1. Hypothetical...Say some body wants to jump into his college graduation. Assuming he can convince a pilot to drop him over the stadium, can he expect to get his rig confiscated, assuming that he'll be arrested? Second, what are the regs for a pilot dropping someone? Does it have to be over a dz or a legit demo location? I mean, you only graduate once...but I'd also hate to not get a diploma because of it. full and plare....
  2. what if an AAD has been through a lot of H2O landings. will it be evident?
  3. I'm getting a Cypres, any thoughts on buying new or used?
  4. Four years ago, I made my first tandem skydive at Bay Area Skydiving. After returning for the first time since then, my videoman and tandem master still recognized me! I wasn't even in the door before a pilot came up to me to welcome me and introduce himself. Lots of people came up to me while I was there just because I was a new face and wanted to say hi. On my second jump, I already had someone wanting to video me in a sit! The only negative I have is that one of the jump runs was too far off the runway and I landed out. But, one of the staff saw my spot and was waiting with a pickup before I was even down. Great job, BAS.
  5. any tips of cleaning the worn in dirt from the outside of my container? is soaking it in the kitchen sink (w/o the chutes and aad of course) a big no no?
  6. I'm flying domestically, has anyone had experience with bringing a rig into the cabin area? Is this allowed, or does it need to be in the cargo hold?
  7. I am about to buy my first rig. I have only a grand to spend, so that means I will be buying a complete used setup. I figure the classifieds on this great site would be the best place to look. Since I am new to the sport, can enyone give me some advice of what to look for (good), and what to look out for (bad)? I have an idea of what size main I want...160-170. However, this is up for debate because I have not jumped smaller than 210, as I have used exclusively student rigs thus far. My canopy control and landings, I am told, are consistently impressive given my newbie status. My home DZ is at 5,400'. I am 5'10", 160 lbs. (180 @ the door). Thanks, all! The advice I hope to get shall help me tremendously.
  8. What, if any, is the diffrence between a freeflyer and a freestyler? What is included besides sit-flying and head-down?
  9. What are people's experiences with Neptunes used as a visual? Is it worth the extra dough over the tried and true Altimaster III's? I heard that they have some kinks to work out before they are accurate...
  10. That's a dilly of a pickle (said like Ned Flanders). What I have to say really won't help you. It might even make you feel bad, sorry. I don't have my A yet either. But I do have 20 jumps, and the only thing I don't have signed off is the one that says I've completed 25 skydives. My instructors (at Eloy) were very good to me, and signed me off on stuff at the end of each day. I'd always ask and remind them as well. I suppose it's your concern, not theirs. Good luck! And don't shell out cash unless you have to.
  11. My first jump was the day after I graduated high skool. Me and my then girlfriend went together as graduation presents to ourselves. A bunch of others said they would, but we know how that goes. It rocked our worlds, of course. 3 years later, I made a second tandem jump, not really planning on it, the opportunity happened to present itself. After that, I couldn't take it. I couldn't allow myself to not be involved in something so bitchin. So I went through AFF and all, and here I am, most of my waking and sleeping moments preoccupied with jumping....
  12. I'm new, and just starting to buy my gear. Do I need to have a visual altimeter? Or can I just have an audible dive comp inside my helmet? If I do need a wrist-mount alti, what do y'all recommend?
  13. Any story about the history of the name "groundpounder" has nothing to do with skydiving. I do not literally "pound the ground" when I touch down. It really goes back to when I took a group of friends 4-wheeling. Someone commented that they'd really hate to be the ground underneath my truck, because it would most likely be an unpleasant experience to be churned up with big tires.... In the ensuing commentary, the name GroundPounder was born!
  14. My home DZ, right. That would be Mile-Hi in Longmont, CO. I did all my training in Eloy, AZ though. The wind chill is a bit more eye opening here in Colorado. Plus the snow makes for a hard-to-see landing spot, and wet shoes! But if you gotta jump, you gotta jump right?
  15. All, the skydiving community seems great. It's as though I have a new set of friends and family! Not that there is anything wrong with the first set. I have 20 jumps under my belt. I have Q's about gear, I'll post those in the respective forums. peace and blue skies, groundpounder
