  1. Part 2 of the interview is out now. http://radioskydive.co.uk/episode-37
  2. Hi, You can listen to Luke Aikins interview (with me) on Radio Skydive UK Episode 36. www.radioskydive.uk/episode-36 It's his first interview with the skydiving media and he gets to tell the story his way. Part two is in Ep37 due out just after the 20th Sept. blue 'uns Brian
  3. Clearly a slow news story day. This was in the Metro, 19th June 2014, a UK newspaper.
  4. Yup, cool, it's well known that some of the smallest DZs can be the friendliest. Also, we had answers/comments to all your other points and questions but this answer needed a little research. :-)
  5. Not according to Hib who supplied the mag with their info. Of course, something could be lost in translation but I've gone with what's in the mag rather than what some "crazy" on the internet says. ;-p

  7. Thanks buddy. We're pretty new so after constructive feedback. Once you've caught up if you could PM me with the bits you love and the bits you'd prefer not to hear. cheers
  8. Thanks for all your comments folks. I've been informed that the BPA mag includes the planes available at each DZ in the DZ map at the back. (However it doesn't appear to be on the BPA website.) I'll update later with all your comments and include those from the mag too. cheers

  10. Hey folks, I'm after a little assistance from the UK readers of this forum. Craig and I record a skydiving podcast for the UK and Euro scene. We've had a listener email from a US based gent who's moving to the UK and among other things is "getting prepared for Cessna dropzones". I'm actually struggling to think of more than one DZ in the UK that runs a small Cessna. Ok I'm a bit biased being North London based, with six dropzones within a 2hr drive, all with turbines, so I'm after some help here to research our answer to this fella. Please can you help fill in the blanks for me and also correct anything I've written that's not quite right? cheers Brian PS It seems I'm a turbine whore and it's not often I'm on a DZ that doesn't have one. :-D Beccles - Cessna Short Caravan Black Knights - Pilatus Porter Bridlington - Cark - Pac 750 Chatteris - Twin Otter Cornish - C206 Dunkeswell - Beech99 x2 Headcorn - Hibaldstow - From a fleet of Dornier G92 x4, Finnist x2, Cessna Grand Caravan x1 Hinton - Pac 750 Ipsden - Jersey - Langar - Cessna Grand Caravan x2 Netheravon - Cessna Grand Caravan x3 Paragon - Peterlee - Cessna Caravan Salisbury - Sibson - Cessna Caravan x2 and occasionally a Dornier G92 Skydive St George - South Cerney - St Andrews - Strathallan - Swansea - Swindon - Tilstock - Airvan Wild Geese (NI) -
  11. I know it's childish but I figure with my surname it had to be done. I kill me.
  12. That's untrue - they had a full page picture as the endpiece of the magazine. Bigger than all the other Nationals photos. Apologies. It seems deliberately inflammatory or slightly naive not to include a single photo of the team that won all 4 categories at the Nationals in the official review. I'm pretty sure Skydive: The Mag has photos of all teams who podium and in 2006 it had a photo of all 54 teams who competed. They were small photos but they were very popular - everyone likes to see photos of themselves!
  13. I'd be a bit miffed by that but it would never happen in the UK - we haven't won enough. Also it would be outweighed by the fact I'd written an article and supplied photos to every major newspaper in Britain and contacted every tv channel and radio station offering interviews. But then, I'm a little keen sometimes. AND I'd probably harbour a grudge for 6 years and then bring it up in a public skydiving internet forum.
  14. Thought you might enjoy this. It's a link from the BBC website in the UK after a recent poll of the "most ludicrous laws". http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7081038.stm One of the international laws is "In Florida, unmarried women who parachute on a Sunday could be jailed" Just too many questions... has this ever been enforced? Do the Police line up and check everyone on landing for a wedding ring? How did this law come about? Why hasn't anyone changed it? Could a DZO be arrested for conspiracy to break the law if they let an unmarried woman jump? too many questions... aaaagggh my head...
  15. As a Brit skydiver, I agree with 4wayfly, seems deliberately inflammatory or slightly naive not to include a single photo of the the team that won all 4 categories at the Nationals. If it was me, I'd be offended. With the calendar I am less convinced. If you had to have a picture of the French 8way team in the calendar, would you rather have it on the cover, that gets turned over and never looked at again OR on one of the pages that you have to stare at for a whole month?
  16. 2 places left. If anyone knows anyone who might be interested, pls can you pass on my contact details. ta very much Brian
  17. Calling all competition virgins... Oli and I were thinking of putting together a couple of scratch 4way teams to enter the Rookie class at the Langar GP on 2/3 June. Neither of us are FS coaches (yet) but Escondido have been jumping together for approx 200 jumps now and have been fairly successful in the past two years at Rookie and in "A" class, so whilst we're not a AAA gold medal winning team we have been coached by them. If you've got FS1 and maybe a little tunnel time we'd like to introduce you to the 4way FS competition scene. Feel free to drop me an email on [email protected] if you're interested. We have 5 spaces left... blue uns Brian www.escondido.moonfruit.com British Grand Prix Overall Champions 2006 (A Class) British Nationals 2006 - 3rd (A Class) British Grand Prix Overall Champions 2005 (Rookie) European Skydiving League Finals 2005 - Gold Medallists (Rookie) British Nationals 2005 - 3rd (Rookie)
  18. check out the refurbished store on the apple .com website for cheap apple stuff. it updates at 11am each day. I got 25% off my laptop from here. theres a macbook G4 on there right now, down from $2500 to $1700. as new, no scratches, 1 year warranty. why would you pay for brand new? go to apple.com, click on the store, then look down the right hand side column til you see a red logo that says "save money" or something similar. happy maccing
  19. I wanna drive this car. The only car to have ever broken the sound barrier - see the sonic boom stretching out across the sand as it accelerates to 700mph+
  20. wow, this stuff is way better than big brother... best wishes to all teams. ps Elan - great website.
  21. I flew with Easyjet from Stansted to Faro just before xmas. I took out the sports baggage option (£15 for an extra bag and extra weight allowance) so that me n the missus could stick both our rigs in one big hard suitcase. I've done this before with Ryanair and it worked a treat. Unfortunately when I got to the check in desk and the kid asked me "what sports equipment is it?" I replied "a couple of parachutes" not expecting that he would reply that parachutes aren't sports equipment (!) and that I'm going to have to pay £45 extra. So I blagged him by telling that the girl on the phone who I booked sports baggage with told it would be fine. He came back from his supervisor and told me that they would let me off on this trip. Next time I'll tell him it's diving gear or summat on the offical "sports" list. ========= As I remember it... Ryanair £15 each way for another bag in the hold upto 25kg. As well as your normal allowance (15kg). Easyjet £15 each way for another bag in the hold but only 7kg extra allowed over the original 25kg. But check what qualifies as a sport.
