Don't know where you are flying out of but consider ATA as another cheap airline alternative. Their hub is in Indy and its only a 2 hr drive from Indy to WFFC. . .From Los Angeles that trip will cost less than 200 bucks. . .

Always check hubs that are close to your destination. . .you can save big bucks that way. . .rent a car using priceline for REAL CHEAP (trust me here. . .lowball them and stick with your pricing - you will get it - don't worry about what they tell you is the going rate). You will get unlimited mileage as well as a name brand rental company.

Yep, perfectly normal. In fact. . .I started really becoming aware of my body and what I was doing once I was licensed and flying with others. Before that, I was just mechanically doing what I was told to do. . .not really aware during freefall. I did take canopy piloting pretty seriously though. . .flight is amazing to me so I really wanted to learn that part well. . .now I love freefall and being aware of everything.

Well, I know there is a beer line in the student landing area at Elsinore, but it is there to keep novice jumpers from getting too near the buildings and getting caught up in the crazy winds that come off the buildings. . .no beer line in the main landing area. . .

Heres hoping that the beer line at most dz's is for safety reasons only. . .

I agree with Gravity Girl on this one. . .also, I would insist on a deposit being left for the rig, either with me or my rigger - to be returned if the rig is returned in the condition it was shipped out in. If you do not know what it is you are purchasing, ask someone who does. The seller should be able to give you a detailed description such as harness sizing, container sizing, sizes of canopies that work well in the container - maybe a canopy inspection report if they have had an inspection done, etc. You can make quite an informed decision just based on the information that will be available to you IN WRITING from the rigger who works on the rig.

Okay, first of all its important to note here that your parachute WANTS to open. . .just by design. I am a horrible packer and even when I pack my own main I still get sweet, soft openings. The only time I have ever worried about the parachute opening was on my first jump (which was AFF 1). After it opened I looked up at it and breathed a sigh of relief. I have never worried about it since. . .

If you want to jump, go jump. Or just hang out at a DZ for the day and watch others jump, talk to some of the jumpers. That will give you some good insight into why we do what we do. . .

Yeah, what they said. Call your bank and 'splain your situation. Ask if there is anything that can be done to help you out. They may even be able to wire transfer funds to a bank there in Buenos Aires for you. Just do it. Most of the time it doesn't take much.

There are a few of these types out there. They usually get humbled during training (AFF) or go through the training and get licensed and then downsize really quick and get hurt or die. . .hopefully they just get hurt. . .then they get the lesson. . .usually. . .

It will forever be etched in my memory. A teammate of mine crash landed in the swoop pond. I watched from about 800 feet above him. Scary stuff. Made me rethink for a bit, but I still got right back on the horse and went back up. Had to. Cannot let fear rule.

My favorite skydiving memory was the first time my friend Ed (IslandCool) and I got to jump together. . .he was the one who introduced me to skydiving. It was great to jump with him. But I have so many fond memories in the sky. . .hmmm.

Yes, Bill, exactly why I brought it up. You can perform a proper PLF on hard ground. . .there is absolutely no way to properly PLF in a pond. . .once the water catches you you are going to hit. . .

Also, I was really only saying it is better to not be in the situation to have to choose in the first place and pointing out that choosing to land in a pond may or may not save you.

I have stayed in the bunkhouse at Elsi. . .its $7 a night there. . .Perris bunkhouse is okay but I hear the IHOP is a better choice, though I have never been in there. . .San Diego also has a bunkhouse

So there you go, 3 DZs all with bunkhouses, all within an hour's drive of each other. . .all come fully equipped with turbine aircraft.
