How many newbies can honestly say that they've never been relieved at a weather hold for the same reason?

I was NEVER happy for a weather hold. . .but for exactly the same reason. Once I made up my mind that I was going to do it. . .I needed to get it over with NOW. . .not sit and wait all day. . .ick. . .that just made it worse. I had to wait an extra to do my first jump and it was crazy. . .

Bob, I am going to try to extricate myself from the desert next weekend and get out there and jump. I have GOT to. . .its an excel camp weekend and PERFECT time to take you up on a two way. . .lol.

  2. Spoiler:

See, that is exactly where my mind turned. . .I won't say anymore here, but I kinda feel the same way about Snape. . .and you know, Dumbledore has a portrait in the Headmaster's office, so. . .he will never truly be gone (as he said in Chamber of Secrets).

  3. SPOILER ATTACHED. . .

Dumbledore was the only wizard Voldemort ever feared. He's gone so now it's all up to Harry. I saw that death coming, but honestly I was really hoping Snape was a good guy! I didn't see that one coming!

I figured it had to happen but I thought it would be in year 7. And I really was shocked about Snape. . .but, I think that the next book will have some real shockers. What I liked about this book is it sucked you in from the beginning. . .I didn't get sucked in with Year 5 Order of the Phoenix as easily. . .

  5. Bob, too funny. . .I was just wondering if you were going to write another story for us to read. . .you should put all your stories into a book and give it to the guys at the school to read. . .I think Betsy and Lob would be in stitches.

I am so glad you are FINALLY going to get that A license. . .

  6. This post cracks me up. I had nearly 100 jumps before I told my dad I jump. why? Because my dad is one of those old school pilots who always believed it was only idiots that jump out of perfectly good airplanes.

Well, I told him. Then he gets all cool on me and tells me about when he was learning how to fly he and his buddies thought they should know how to jump out of the plane if something went wrong so they went and took a first jump course and did a static line jump (mind you, my dad learned how to fly in the 50's so the course was 15 minutes and the jump was on a round). Then he proceeds to tell me about his friend who was a demo jumper and some other buddies of his that jumped - a couple of them still jumping today. . .old timers we would call them. . .

So it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be and now he brags to people that his daughter jumps out of perfectly good airplanes. . .lol

Darcy, we were inviting everyone/anyone, who could make it via this thread, including you, of course! We still love you, girl.

Girl, I was so teasing you guys. . .I just hopped on this thread and saw it at the last minute. . .LOL. . .I was hoping someone would catch it before you guys left and text me while out drinking. . .lol

I didn't realize that you can get a 300M with a HemiWink, always thought the 300M was the previous model and that the Hemi would be the 300C! Besides, if he's already driving a vette, he should get at least one of the SRT8 cars (charger, 300) at least then there isn't too much disappointment when hitting the gas!

That was my thinking. . .and since I KNOW Aubrey, I know he would be much happier with the power in the engine.

  9. I love your passion for what you do. Lawrence too. . .I've watched Lawrence in action a few times and its just an awesome thing to watch.

I hope it doesn't die away from competition and I will do my part to help it stay, but I also hope you can get more people interested in competition. There are more than 4 skysurfers out there. . .try to get more of them out for competition so that this becomes a moot point and the USPA quits trying to kill it.

FYI I jump a PD 9-cell loaded at ~.8:1 and I never get end cell closures, so it stops being a problem somewhere below that loading. Wind penetration is poor, but I don't have a collapsible PC, which would help. I'd describe the toggle pressure at my loading as "moderate".

I was getting end cell closure on my Sabre 210 (wl of .73:1) nearly every jump. . .and very long snivels. . .I now jump much closer to 1:1 and never have this problem.

  11. You might want to ask this question in the instructor's forum. . .they could give you some great advice. . .though you are sure to get some here. . .I won't give you any advice as I am too new to be teaching people how to land. . .

  12. One thing I discovered that I was doing was reaching with my feet to the ground before I had stopped moving forward. A friend (and instructor) video'd my landing and pointed out where I was going wrong. . .It helped TREMENDOUSLY. See if you can get a camera flyer at the DZ to video your landings and then ask your instructors to critique it with you. They will undoubtedly have the best advice. . .you might have to pay the camera guy, but it will be worth it in the long run as your landings improve. . .

  13. Dude, you just bought a vette last year. . .need a new car already?. . .lol

For you big daddy, I would definitely get the hummer. . .but I prefer the look of the 300M. . .but you can't buy a new car unless you take me for a test drive. . .hehehe

B| Okay, have a good time and I expect drunk text messaging. . .

  16. Hey Wendy, sorry this has become a problem.

I'll tell you a little story about my ex hubby's business. They are general contractors who specialize in home remodel/repair. Right now at this very moment they have 120 jobs on the books. They keep telling people the same thing when they call. . .and I quote "we are extremely busy right now, it may take several days or weeks before we can get to the work. Do you have a deadline or are you in a hurry? If you are you might want to call around and see if someone else is less busy and can get to the work." Because they are always honest up front they usually get the job anyway unless the person is really in a hurry. There is no excuse for promising and not delivering. Call the BBB now and do a preliminary report. Also, call the state contractor's licensing board as well. File a preliminary report with them. It can be retracted when the work is done to satisfaction.

  17. I ALWAYS hated this thing - the office donations. . .till I went to work for a cancer center here near where I live. They had a very strict policy about asking for money in the office. They could post an envelope in the lounge and put a sign up, but could not pass around the envelope. That way if you wanted to give, you could do it anonymously and for any amount you felt like giving. If you didn't want to give, no one knew you didn't give. It was a great system. . .and the ONLY one allowed.

  19. Hmmmmm, ex's. . .well, I am currently living with an ex. . .still in love. My ex boyfriend posts on here as IslandCool and he is my best friend and the one who got me into skydiving. I only have one ex I would love to drown in a very deep pool. . .or throw out of a plane with out a canopy. . .but since I never have to see him or come in contact with him I guess there is no reason to hate. . .

Well, there's gear and then there's gear. Its not too soon to invest in a pair of goggles. They are inexpensive, and your own goggles can really add to the comfort and enjoyment of your student jumps.

Tigra, I had a brand spanking new pair of goggles for my first jump. . .I was EXTREMELY happy that I purchased these instead of using the student goggles. . .they were all HORRIBLE.

I graduated AFF in January 2004, got my A license shortly thereafter. I purchased gear shortly after getting my A license because it was income tax season, I had just got my check (read: single parent head of household = lg income tax check) and there was a rig at Ground Zero gear store at Elsi that suited my needs and fit perfectly. I am still using that rig though I did downsize the canopy to a 170. (originally loaded with a 210). I would love to buy a new container and downsize to a 150, but it will wait till after I finish nursing school and can jump more consistently.
