  1. "you will never convince me that Brian is dead because he lacked experience or currency."
    .
That does not make sense to me.

" You never know what's going on inside another person's head, which is why you cannot decide for someone else what they should do."
    .
It is right that this is not a blame game. Shit happens. and happens to good people every day.
You are wrong about what was going on. Apparently there was 'Nothing' going on in the deceased head. He is not the first person to ever brain-lock and do absolutely Nothing when he apparently was sensory overloaded with the situation. Brain-Lock and freezing up is doing something but at the same time, it's Nothing. and doing 'nothing' is what killed him.

  2. " P.S. It must suck to stall that much on BASE jumps." :P
    .

When the Flik came out I was pretty convinced that it would be widely accepted on the fact of the " Flair Stroke " being so similar to newer jumpers that were rally never raised on the larger 7-cell canopies as Skydivers. The extra line cascade is more sensitive to the pilots input on the controls. When you have more control of the amount of fabric at the tail section with input. I am seeing this as Big Plus. I am also seeing this as a big plus on doing Flat-Turns at lower AGL approach to land. Fliks are flat flyers with the capability of doing some very nice flat turns in the deep area of toggle control.
BUT I think that if you don't know your canopy and it's flight characteristics. When a BASE jumper gets himself into a tight situation and gets pressed with pressure. If he over reacts and 'Panic Stabs' the controls. Stall is just more likely to happen. And of course the canopy with 5 instead of 4 attachment points is going to be a little more touchy-feely with LESS movement and pull of the Toggles. Any Canopy that is taken to far and into the 'point of stall' with out the appropriate amount of forward speed to compensate. Is going to shudder and then If the Pilot get really overloaded he will pound himself in to the dirt. The same thing applies if you move this to the end of the spectrum. I don't know how many times I have heard people complain when starting out. That there canopy is not flaring right and there having hard landings.. Only to find that there control lines are to long or they are just not flaring deep enough on the stroke.
I have witnessed some very good accuracy from pilots using the 5th line. The size of you PC does make a difference on the distortion of the Flair on the pendulum when you are riding the Wire on the approach to make your final inputs with the control lines. Everything though must be taken into consideration how the design of the flight characteristics of that manufactures wing was intended to be controlled.
    .

  3. SEE isn't that easy. Just buy the canopy as the manufacture designed it to fly. Fly it for a while. Get to know it. I you decide that the 5th line is not your cup of tea then just pull the O'l pair of scissors out and change it. Don't limit yourself to just one option. Take both and see yourself.
    .

  4. good point Precisely, Documentation and 'protection of Your own' of what you already have is the only way because there will be no/little consequences for ill actions of the abusers. Self governing is the only way. Government can never regulate and control as efficient as the private sector. But once you loose control to a government agency for regulation & control it will be almost impossible to get it back.
    .

  5. I still have my 5th on my 293' for about 2-3 years. I think you need to take a Canopy/wing for what it is and just learn it's ways.
I have never put a No Slider jump it though. The Flik is my slider-Up Only canopy since I bought it.
On my other 285 v-tecs are 4-line and Flair different when it comes to the lower-end of the stall pendulum. Flik has a more sensitive range but It seems to be no big deal though. I think I just fly by instinct and use the controls on a Canopy as I need them.

  6. Wow, 3 pages of Posts on how to control unethical behavior on legal Italian BASE Wall.
    .
The only way to stop the problem like what was Posted in the start of this Thread. Would be to choke the life out of BASE with regulations. Regulations that have some sort of consequences when the are broken.
When you see a BASE violator going to the exit for a jump. 'You' the concerned citizen and BASE jumper yourself. Grab your cell-phone, dial up the BASE Police and Nark-them-Off for making a bandit jump on your legal BASE site.
You then give the Officer of BASE laws information of there description and which way they ran so he could chase them down and confiscate there BASE gear. Then give them a substantial monetary-$$$$ punishment also.
    * Congratulations *, You are now the person that BASE jumpers dislike the most.
Also: think long and hard all the American BASE jumpers out there Posting there views of proper etiquette and ways to handle people who will fuckup there health and the possible access of that Italian BASE object.
I think you will see that this is only a 'Small Taste' of what will come to happen. If they ever let loose NPS objects such as Cap or Zion. When desire and freedom drive the BASE jumpers who are foolish and Exit with inappropriate Equipment, Knowledge and adequate Training.

  7. I am not stating the Right or Wrong or in debate of consequences of choice bad or good made by those who play with the freedom that is there's.
BASE is the freedom to ' TAKE ' by anybody at any time Free-Fall & body flight from fixed objects of their desire.
That is what it is. That is all it will ever be.
    .

  8. Wow, what can you do short of a physical confrontation ? BASE is suppose to be free and unregulated.
Only thing that could possibly solve any problem like that would be to have someone stationed 'Full-Time' at the exit point. For a Mandatory Gear Check and Mandatory Check of BASE License.
Do you think that will happen any time soon ?
    .
    .

  9. " PS: Don't do the same to your rear risers/rear slider grommets because that could cause the slider to interfere with the brakes."
    -
I don't understand ? How will this interfere with the breaks ? I have never heard this ?
Though I have always used the front Riser Bumper for Slider lock down on No-Slider jump since day one.
The only reason I never use front and back tie-down of the Slider at the same time. I don't want the Slider pulling on the front Riser when pulling down on the rear Riser while doing a rear Riser off-heading correction. I don't want the front and rear of the Slider connected in that manor. I want the rear Riser to 'Slide Free' when pulling on the rear Riser.

  10. I think that is what DJ also told me last week. Some kind of deal for the month or something like that ? V-tec mod. as a freebee this month with purchase with Flik ?
Flik 293 with venting is a canopy that has treated me pretty well so far. I got 3 of there products flying at this moment and have owned 6.

  11. screw you buddy. Your life's been sailing pretty smooooth lately. What do you want me to wear at your funeral ? ...;)
I though, will live forever. I have planed on it my whole life.

  12. It's really Not about the judgment of company you keep and being an undesirable or a misfit or stupid sometimes. Thats Not all that bad in BASE jumping. We all are one of those at one time or another and sometimes it's far better to be Infamous than Famous for sure.
But when it's all said and done and it's the fucking end of you. There will be BASE jumpers hanging-out and talking the shit. One jumper will say. "Hey you hear that (place your name here) went-in at bla-bla-bla the other day ?"
In remembrance. I would rather them say. " No fucking way ? He/she (place your name here) was kind of a FuckTard sometimes but jumping with that Asshole sometimes sure was FUN."
Rather than like this. You people/fucktards talking shit on a two-bit websit. Like you were a fucking 'Agnos' or something.

  13. One of the funniest stories of a building Jump Gone-Weird was a local building under construction here in Portland that Slim was hitting-up about every other night for a jump.
He said that he was going about his business as usual. Hops the fence and makes his way up the stairs when he heard voices coming up from the lower floors. It seems that the security guard had finally earned his keep and spotted him and called the local town-clowns in blue.
Slim gets to the top floor that is still under construction. Looks around for a quick place to hide but it is pretty open and barren. The story-level is still in plain corrugated steel floor and only about half of the level is poured in concrete. ONLY thing that was a cover was ' 2 lonely Porta Potties' just sitting there. SOoooo the he runs and makes a quick dive into one of the Shitters and locks the door, sits down and makes quiet.
He is being real quiet and he hears the two officers walking out on the deck and talking. They are making small talk about the view and kind of giving the place a quick looking over. Then one of the officers says that he has to take a quick piss before he walk down. Slim say's that he heard the officer walk-up and pull on the shitter door but it kind of half-assed locked with that plastic sliding lock mechanism. The next tug was a little more firmer and the door flung open and Slim said he did not know who was more scared, the officer or him.
The officer jumps back. Slim just said he just made the best of the situation. He said he very calmly stepped out and said "Hey Mate no worries. I am not vandalizing or involved in any thievery. I just came up here to make a BASE jump "
He said the officer kind of looked at each other and one kind of made the remaks similar to, " ...Well if you were to make it to the edge and jumped before we could actually could stop you..."
Slim said he was pulling his PC out and folding the Bridal to go hand-held and walking to the edge as the officer was saying that. said he got to the edge. Told the officers that he would just wait for them both at the bottom and Exited. He said he heard one of the officers make a loud comment as he exited like "Holy fucking shit".
Slim opened and got the Heading. set-up and landed next to his car that was parked in the usual parking lot. Then he said he made the mistake and said he did not know why ? he did it but he Bolted. Threw his gear in the car and drove off.
Well it was not but 2-minutes. The two officers on the roof were on the radio and called for support and he was being pulled over for integration. Slim said he was being questioned for about an hour and was Cuffed and sitting on the street curb while everyone involved were discusing the nights excitment. When one of the two oficer that were on the roof with him came up and said. " It was one of the coolest things they ever seen but he should not have made a run-for-it. and it gave him no choice but to radio for backup". but just wait and "Dont Say A Word' about anything. I will try to smooth things out".
Well about 15- minutes latter a officer came over and took his cuffs off and told him to get lost.

  14. The jumper on the ramp in the pic. holding his PC hand-held is so scared. It looks in the pic. like he even forgot to take off his Green Beret before he exits.
Looks high enough for a slider-up. Just another dirty high puller. ...;)

  15. what kind of jump was the Russian jumper doing ? what is the possibility that any of the jumpers experiencing the same Mal. were doing anything similar ?
Similar in object, exit, delay or type of discipline like Tracking or WS ? Similar in type of equipment used ?.

  16. I luv to watch people do ultra low shit for the first times. I is real cool to watch there body language if FF when they fall way past there comfort-zone of life and death brain sensory imput..You can really see it in some. There body gets a tense and knotted look just before the Canopy bangs open. Fun to watch but It's pretty serious and scarry stuff when you start exiting from 250- ft. and on Down into the 150-60 Ft. range.

  17. The one BIG Plus on shipping something rather than Checking it as Luggage is the fact that Shipping can be insured and be actually compensated-$$$ for it's loss. The Airlines if they actually loose your Luggage (Rig) they will screw you then laugh when you ask compensation. You will receive little to nothing.

Canada has some Fkd-UP Screeners. A couple years back me and Steve (manbird) were going to Kamloops Canada to WS. Those dumbasses would not let him take his skydive rig from Vancouver B.C. to shuttle up there on a 20-minute flight. The deal was He (the screener) Did not like his Reserve PC spring. He wanted to visually see and inspect the Spring. Unfucking believable. We were explaining to him that We could show him but there would an open container and parachute. We told him that it was packed by a Fed. FAA licensed rigger and sealed. He just not have the mental capacity to comprehend that it was only a spring with fabric. He insisted to pop-it before he was permitted to go aboard. So he was forced to check it as luggage 10-minutes before the flight was scheduled to depart.
That is the first time I have ever witnessed anyone being denied to carry on a Skydive rig. I have never been denied or have never witnessed anyone turned down with a BASE rig carry-on international or domestic.

  18. When is that date ?
    .
I also heard that there is some event in Mt. Vernon Wa. (n.w. skydivers) in two weeks.
If so can someone give me a confirmation on that date for sure. If you know or are from there.
I have heard some good positive talk of that DZ and they give good altitude on your 20-$ also.
