  1. ...and this... Just a few gems to yell at my Senators and Congressmen about while I urge them to kill this initiative. ...and that was just from my first 10 minutes of browsing. Check it out. I heard something on the radio about reporting about equipment being used or some crap like that... Attached is the chart recently released. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.
  2. I don't know what you are looking for. In my case, I became hopeless. I needed help to go on. I not only received love, hope and help, I have been blessed beyond what I imagined. That's all I know. Go have fun. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.
  3. I will. See my previous post. Call me a whistle blower. The dirty little secret in the field is that it is just a business, people are product. Avoid burnout by not becoming personally involved with the patient/client. Maintain professional distance not only because it is best for the patient/client but it helps to insulate the professional from client centered emotional stress. The main thing, don't get behind in your paperwork, learn creative charting techniques that will pass audit. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. 4. a fundamentally incorrect statement. Again, basing any hypothesis on that would then also be incorrect. I think you are making a HUGE assumption by stating that the goal of mental health is not a 'cure'. hundreds of mental health professionals would largely disagree with you. treatments eventually lead to cures... just because we are not there today is some ares does not mean that they are not striving for a cure. treatment is the actual PROCESS, cure is still the goal.... I am speaking from personal experience in the field. Research grants focus on cures; professionals may debate cure possibilities and so on. In the trenches, the application of therapy is to stabilize the patient/client through treatment. I have been employed in both private for profit and non-profit treatment facilities. In the former, the goal is to obtain payment for treatment stay from the insurance company. They demand the shortest time possible for stabilization. In the latter, here in FL, the main focus is on the paperwork required by DCF and the client providers i.e., Department of Corrections and U.S. Probation Office. I have written hundreds of treatment plans, never a cure plan. We have guidelines to word them to be in compliance with the auditors. We constantly reminded each other to remember the "3 P's" of treatment. Namely, paperwork has priority over people. We stabilize and discharge with a continuing treatment plan which generally outlines management of the specific illness through Rx medication, continued counseling, support groups. A spiritual component is always encouraged. We give lip service to the idea of working ourselves out of a job knowing it is not possible. Why? We know that people will fight for their limitations. We worry about funding, not people. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.
  5. I offer personal testimony. It does not bother me if you are not interested. It is your choice. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.
  6. That is what I have been saying from the beginning. It is your choice. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.
  7. I like the way you think. Logic is largely a big mystery to me. I started reading a college text book on it a while back, still on chapter one. I am just too much of a romantic. Artists and crazy people make more sense to me. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.
  8. As a final comment for today, let me make myself clear on the subject of altruism and self-interests. I desire to be a servant. The purpose of my posts is to offer some guidelines, exhortation and encouragement to Christian skydivers. Non-believers hijack the thread and that's OK. I do not receive any extra credit from God for the CSA or these posts. It has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not I go to heaven or hell. I was given a skydiving ministry vision in 1984. It was manifested in April 1987 when Mike Lewis and I were on a TV show together. I am remaining and will remain obedient to the Holy Spirit. I post on DropZone.com because it is an appropriate venue. I chose the Speakers Corner based on the Forum instructions. I will be honest and admit there is some self interest and satisfaction involved. However, that is personal so you will just have to guess. Maybe I will tell you if you get it right. One thing I have noticed these past few weeks. I identify myself and so do several others. However, some of the real heavy hitters are incognito. That does give me pause to evaluate their belief in their own personal power and true courage. Just a passing thought. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. 9. I am certain that you have good reason for your feelings and justified in your belief. I know what it is to carry a heavy burden and still put on a happy face each day. You are absolutely correct, being a good person has nothing to do with being a Christian. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. 10. I never predicted anything. I said I believe we are in the last days of Biblical prophecy. Without a doubt anyone who does predict the last day will have a very high probability of being wrong. I did read Bill's post. He is speaking of the end of the USA. I think we could be going down that path with BHO. I don't trust our leadership. 11. No. I am sharing personal testimony of how the Word of God became truth in my life. I believe that truth is available to all who seek it. Please understand, I am not asking you to come to my mountain. I am saying that God has a mountain unique to you, if you want to go there. 12. How convenient for not being able to nail down specifics. Are you sure you also don't know what all of the other terms mean. BTW - generation has a very specific meaning. Look it up. Not in Scripture. Check it out. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.
  13. Your post demonostrates a lack of understanding regarding the mental health field. I wouldn't expect you to know specifics, not your field. First, the medical model for psychiatric care has a primary purpose of making the patient feel better. Cure is not a goal, treatment is. Therefore, spiritual counseling has equal footing with other counseling approaches. Second, ethical best practice requires the counselor to go with the client/patient not to make the client/patient go with the counselor. This practice is referred to as eclectic. 14. The following is a repost from another thread but applicable here as well. If one is accountable to society then the person must obey the laws of his family, community, etc. If one is accountable to God then the person must choose the path. The Holy Bible states that God's plan is through Jesus Christ as the gateway. All other spiritual plans are man made and therefore fall short. So, the first question is, "Do I want to follow a spiritual path in life?" If the answer is yes, the next question is, "How do I choose the correct path?" In my case I studied witchcraft, spiritism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Carlos Castaneda, astrology, numerology, Eckankar, et.al. I received a spiritual epiphany when I was stranded alone in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and the Holy Spirit spoke to me and said, "Why don't you try Jesus? You've tried everything else." As for your last statement, I am turning my energy toward the human condition in the world of skydivers. I am only interested in helping the lost individual find a path out of the woods. I believe Christianity is the best path but it is not the only path. In the skydiving community we have lost members to alcoholism, addiction and other mental health issues that have gone all the way to suicide. I was almost a terminal victim and I have dedicated the last 28 years to helping those I am able to reach. I am always searching. DropZone.com is only one venue for me. I was ASO when Z'hills suffered its first fatality. It was drug related. Some years back a skydiver spent the day jumping and partying at SDC then went up on the bunker and shot himself. Several jumpers have gone in at SDC with no apparent reason. Were they suicides or just accidents? We don't know. Did you have any inclination that these people were in trouble? If you did have such awareness how did you reach out to them? What would you do now? How would you offer help? You are a DZO with plenty on your plate. No one really expects you to be crisis counselor as well. I am a counselor and I can offer help. I prefer Christian based counseling but I can operate with other techniques. The smart thing, IMO, would be to take advantage of my service rather than fight it. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. 16. You guys are trying to put words in my mouth. See post #38 this thread. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.
  17. The people that study Biblical prophecy use the term. All the prophecies have been fulfilled except those relating to the end times. That study is call Eschatology. The final chapter started, according to the experts, when Israel became a Nation in 1948. The key word is generation. No one knows the length of that term. In Biblical study it can mean one life time, 100 years, or an era. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. 18. Never by the masses. Only by the new guy that wanted to be "in charge." The New Testament was written by those who walked with Jesus Christ and/or had personal experience with Him. I'm referring to Saul of Tarsus who became Paul. They were all martyrs. They died tragically. They had no desire to be in charge. Their motivation was to share the truth. 19. Look, I'm FINE with people practicing whatever religion they want. If in a troubling time they find some solace in the belief in God, who am I to deny that? However, I'm especially annoyed at the idea that some people's beliefs in God is driving them to set public policy for the rest of us. The issue for me is that even recently religion in the US has been the basis for government officials making decisions on not just a national level, but an international one. Your "god" doesn't trump my "god" or lack of "god". It just doesn't. If you want to believe it does, ok, I guess I can't stop you, but the fact remains that it still doesn't unless you can prove to be that it does, which you can't, so it still doesn't. And that is the basis for thousands of years of war, right there, "my god is better than your god so I'm 'in charge'." Well, that's just bullshit. If we can separate "god" from religion for a moment. Religions exist for the purpose of controlling the masses. Look at any religion (other than your own of course) and you'll instantly see this to be true. A class of people (priests, medicine men, witch doctors) colludes with the ruler in a symbiotic relationship. They claim he has a divine right to rule because "god" told them he does. No one can question it because only the priest class can talk to "god". Over and over and over this happened all over the the face of the planet. Why do you think that is? Is it because "god" spoke to each of these tribes? It continues to happen today when shyster televangelists claim "god" came to them in a vision and told them he needs money or caused Katrina to punish New Orleans for its sins or a 90 foot tall Jesus spoke to them. It's just complete bullshit. And why does it work? Because of a basic belief in "god". Religion has a very difficult time operating without a "god". Sure, some exist; Taoism, Buddism (and Buddism is huge!) . . . but even they have some central figure that somehow magically knew the way and was "enlightened" beyond our understanding. That knowledge is ways held by the priest class and continues to maintain power in a symbiotic relationship with the "ruler" (in some cases being one in the same). It's all a way of maintaining power over people. I agree with you, God or religion and politics are two separate issues. I am only interested in helping the lost individual find a path out of the woods. I believe Christianity is the best path but it is not the only path. In the skydiving community we have lost members to alcoholism, addiction and other mental health issues that have gone all the way to suicide. 22. Good. I added it to my calendar, and I'll laugh my ass off you and your pastor on Sep 21st. You didn't read the post carefully. It may not be this September. 23. Hilarious. Finally, religion fulfilling it's one true promise. Low comedy. Did you watch the video? Cronkite states it in his own words in opposition to Pat Robertson. 24. Well stated. The curious thing for me is that any spiritual or religious topic always digresses to whether or not God exists. I believe the main issue is individual accountability for activities that create good feelings or emotions. The most common objections, don't tell me when and with whom I can have sex; don't tell me I have to be responsible for children I created; don't tell me I can't get high on the drug of my choice; don't tell me not to steal what I need; don't tell me I have to trust.... The natural man does not want to be held accountable. Spiritual law i.e., the Ten Commandments, reveal sin and accountability. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit.
