  1. Hey. I'm fairly inexperienced in the entire sport, and only have about 35 or so jumps under my spectre 135 loaded at pretty much 1-1. I have received a few pointers from a very god canopy pilot on how to land it to get some decent swoop out of it, and on a no wind day, with a straight in approach, the most I have got out of it is somewhere in the neighborhood of 25m. We have a 50m bowl and I level off around the edge of the bowl to get close to the cookie. Obviously hooking it in, or using front risers add to that, but I have only started to play around with lower altitude front risers. Man I love no wind days! 2. there's only one person I know of out there who jumps a Diablo, am I right? Is he ok overall? Tie your shoes together, that way it'll be twice as hard for him to get S.E.X. party #1 "Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "f*#k, what a ride".
  3. Hey. Just wanted to find out how many other people out there are jumping Spectres, what they're loading them at, and just general opinion of them. I have a spectre 135 loading it at about 1-1 give or take, and love the canopy more each time I jump it. The only problem I seem to have had is slightly off heading openings which I had attributed with the longer snivel. I am in no real rush to downsize anytime soon, but, as a definate step in the future I do give it thought, and have started reading up on certain higher performance canopies. While doing this I also took note of the fact that the spectre goes as small as a 97, and was curious if anyone is flying one at a much higher wing loading than I am, or if people are just using it as a first canopy. 4. Most reasons I have read, I whole heartedly agree with. What often surprises me is being part of a community where without a second thought one skydiver will lend out the gear they spent so long saving for (or skipped paying a bill or two anyways) just so they can see what their gear looks like when it's up there. "Oh you're in from out of town, weren't planning on jumping, so you don't have your gear....here, use mine." That is so very cool to be involved in a family like that. 5. I guess my last post wasn't really clear enough. I was wondering what people were talking about in regards to the spectre brake problems. If somebody could explain that to me it would help a great deal. I am really leaning towards getting a used spectre 135 I think, provided I can find one. I do plan on trying more than one before my mind is made up though so please keep the suggestions and experiences coming. Thanks.
  6. I don't know what kind of gear you're using out there, but I did my jump course through the military(wwII 35 ft. rounds) and those are a whole lot worse than anything I've experienced so far under the squares. I did try the padded bike shorts and found it made a world of difference under there, so it may be worth a try. Best of luck.
  7. I have been trying to find out as much as I could about the Spectre and Sabre as I have pretty much narrowed it down to one of those in a 150 or 135. I think 135 but it will depend on availability when I buy. I'm just curious as to what the deal is with the stories people say they've heard about the brake trim or something like that on the spectre. If I had to chose between harder openings or brake problems I think I would chose a little bit of a slam, but I have no idea what they are refering to. Anyone who could fill me in would be appreciated. Thanks.
  8. Thanks for the tips and advice. I would still like to hear more opinions from anyone who would be willing to offer it, especially on the comparisons between the Sabre and the Spectre. Like how does the performance compare an d would you still recommend the same size canopy. I think I am leaning towards the 135. Also comparison of flight characteristic and openings etc... as I have heard that the Sabre's opening can be a little harder than one would hope. Is this true for the spectre as well. I really would like to swoop in the future (not the near future obviously, but down the road anyway.) Thanks.
  9. I am a beginner in this sport and I am looking to buy gear in the near future. I currently have about 30 jumps and will probably have about 50-60 when I'll be purchasing. I am 5'6" and 120 lbs. I would like to hear advise on canopy manufacturers and container systems to fit someone my size. I am currently jumping a 170 promain that I borrow from one of the other jumpers at the dz. -Basically people there have said go with the sabre 150 or 135. I will probably go with this advice but I am interested in other opinions.
