  1. Oh wise Bill.... That is actually very good advice. I met him AFTER I started skydiving, so I assumed he'd always be ok with me doing it to my heart's content. Now I just don't know if it's more him or me. He's generally very supportive of my skydiving. But it bothers me that he doesn't understand why I love it so much...then there's also the guilt I feel for leaving him by himself on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Phew...I feel like I just got out of a therapy session.
  2. Well said! That is so true. I just think how much easier it would be if he were a skydiver. Selfish? Yes, probably.
  3. Good point, but you have to admit that most skydivers take it to a different level. Am I right?
  4. When I try to justify the amount of time I spend at the dz, he thinks we skydivers are trying to be "above" those who don't do it. I try to explain that it's just different than anything else, not necessarily better. Ok, so it is better.....
  5. ...does this ever work? I'm having my doubts.
  6. I'll be in Boston next weekend (July 17th) and need some help finding a good DZ that is close to the area. Thanks!
  7. I'm jealous, Bill!! But fortunately I got some of my own tunnel time in Perris. It was no FIVE HOURS (geez), but it'll do for now. Next time I'm coming with you!

    Best beer

What kind of beer makes your eyes light up the most after a long day of skydiving?
  9. Please tell me he's having it the following weekend, too (May 1/2)?? Do you know?
  10. I'm at a big fat ZERO, just like you. I feel your pain. Living in the North sucks.
  11. It all sounds great to me! When can we start???
  12. [reply/]Don't worry, WW, if she wants we'll be sure to teach her CrW this year so she experiences the real 'dark side' of skydiving Bill, I had no idea you did CrW until Kim told me!
  13. That is exactly what I was just going to say. If somebody I have never met came into my home, I sure as hell wouldn't wait for them to come to me. I would do what I could to make them feel as welcome as possible on my turf.
  14. This is my FAVORITE pic. It was my second tandem.
  15. HA HAha...very true. Well....just the alcohol part for me.. You're right about that. Unfortunately, I'll be out of town for a wedding this weekend. Have fun at the party! And I had so much fun w/Kim last week. She's a wild woman...love it! She will have to come over more often. You two are great.
  16. Must be the MN weather that does it to us?? I AM missing jumping. I think I'll die if I have to wait any longer. (p.s. I didn't go Sunday because I wasn't invited! ) My rig is being....serviced...at the moment. Mark is installing my brand new AAD!
  17. If the wing of an airplane ever chases me, I will most definitely worry!
  18. Oh you have no idea. This was a short dream for me. I could write a skydiving dream novel.
  19. That is really funny. Can't stop laughing....
  20. I've always been able to remember every little detail of my dreams, but lately I've been having the most vivid skydiving dreams. I had this one last night (I think I might be crazy): I was in an airplane and knew I’d be jumping out soon. Suddenly I was in freefall. I looked over my shoulder and a huge part of the plane was falling with me. In fact, it looked like an engine and part of the wing. We were falling at the same speed, and I couldn’t manage to get away from it. No matter where I went, it seemed to follow me. I went way below my hard deck because I didn’t want it to hit my canopy upon opening, and then realized WOW, I am REALLY close to the ground! I went to pull my pilot chute but it was really weird because I was in more of a standing position than a belly-to-earth position. I kept trying to get in a better position to pull, but couldn’t. I pulled my pilot chute out, but didn’t do it very well. I did it very half-heartedly, and remember thinking, “If there is any time to pull half-heartedly, it is NOT NOW.” I kept grabbing it and tried to throw it out again and again and finally it caught air and opened my canopy. I was safely under canopy and noticed that I was going to be able to land at the dropzone! I remember thinking how lucky this was. The dropzone I was about to land on was not one that I’ve ever seen in waking life. It was filled with trees and a big marshy area…it was very pretty. I looked up to unstow my brakes but they were way out of my reach. I had to pull myself at least two feet up the risers in order to reach them and thought, “This is an issue I’ll have to talk to Mark (my trusty rigger) about.” I got them unstowed and went in for final approach. I wasn’t sure which way the wind was blowing, so I just picked a plan and ran with it. But as I got closer, I was going a lot faster than I’d planned, and was headed to land on a road. So I did a 90-degree turn to the left and was headed to a perfect landing place. I thought, “People on the ground are probably thinking I did this on purpose.” I was coming in to land and was focusing very hard on exactly when to flare. At that point, I realized I was dreaming and was very happy because I was practicing my landing without the possibility of getting hurt. I landed fine and then realized it was raining pretty hard and the ground all around me was wet. My canopy was hovering above the ground and had not quite touched down yet, even though I had been on the ground for a few seconds. I didn’t want it to get wet so I tried to steer it to a dry place by walking underneath it. I ended up steering it right onto a set of power lines. CRAP!! I couldn’t get it off and didn’t want to tug on it. I walked away a little upset and left it blowing in the wind. Suddenly I was at a public swimming pool and noticed Mark on the other side of the pool from me. I went over and told him that everything was tangled in power lines and that he’d have to go fix it for me! Oh, and can you fix my wacky brake lines while you're at it?? That's it. Interpretations?
  21. I don't think anyone will take offense to what you had to say. It was an opinion. Thanks for all of the input!
  22. Anyone had any experiences with them? Good? Bad? They have great gear deals on their website but I would like to know if they have good support/customer service before ordering.
  23. Does anyone know how to lucid dream (when you can control the content of your dream without waking up)??? I have read a lot about it and taught myself to do it. You have to be in the right stage of sleep in order to do it...it only happens to me when I wake up in the morning and go back to sleep for a little nap. I've only been able to do it maybe 10 times in my life. But from what I've read, you can teach yourself to do it nightly if you want. The few lucid dreams I've had were great. I realize, Hey..I'm dreaming..I can do whatever I want! So I start flying around the block or beating someone up. Unfortunately, any time I've been in that state, I've failed to think of skydiving. Next time it happens, I'm doing an hour worth of freefall! The movie Waking Life gives some insight into dreaming this way. Very cool movie.
