  1. I jump combinations of this all the time. I have 2 Ouragan jackets and a pair of Ouragan pants. I switch them out depending on the weather and what type of jump I am doing. Nancy (Ouragan) made me a variation of my freefly jacket for tandems giving me a small wing, very generous sleeves and extra padding on the shoulders. When doing tandems I wear a cheap pair of black pants because I don't want to slide my freefly pants in, but when I wear the jacket and pants it always stays in. This is mainly due to the "V" waist that they build into the jacket, and the adjustable belt on the pants.

Do we know if he made it to Florida?

According to Brett he was supposed to go check out Brett's Fla residence, then was going to his favorite motel in Daytona. Brett hasn't heard from him, and when Dr. Kathy was here we spent a VERY windy Saturday scouring the motels along the beach for him, and even found the one that he normally stays in. But, No Emho!

He may have gone to Arizona, I just wanted to see if anyone had seen him. We had such a great summer with him, I just wanted to make sure he's okay!

  5. I gotta agree with you Jack. Holy shit, there go some more of my heroes........

Mick Jagger flapping his bingo wings, Keith and Ron seeming to be playing different songs, at least Charlie Watts put on a clinic in understated percussion.

    Ouch - not good.....

I went jumping in Eloy last November and after my final jump a packer
put it in the container. I will not realistically be jumping before March and was wondering should I take it out the container. Let it chill out and relax, or is it OK to leave it packed and jump it in March without a re-pack.

Is there a time limit on this, and what would you recommend?

  8. I wish I could see this video. I've tried a bunch of times to log into that site and never received the "confirmation email". Since I've tried a few times all my email addresses are registered there and I can't use any of them any more. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr>:(

SPI published a letter that says that the RSL is a part of the tested rig & should not be removed from the rig.

The "Option" should be on the order form to let the owner to choose it or not.

Removing of the RSL from the rig is a "Change not approved by the mfg."

    Safe Rigging !!!

Just another reason to hate Sunpath (Just Kiddin' Derek) - I, personally, would and have removed an RSL at the request of the rig owner

  10. Shlomo, I think the rsl is an "option" whether Sunpath give you the option or not on th eorder form, it is an "optional extra" - removing it is the Jumper's discretion I think (though I've been wrong before)

  11. I seem to remember Billy Bragg putting out a bunch of Indie albums around 1983. He was the "Boy From Essex that done good"

He owes a lot of his success (as do SO many British acts) to the late, great John Peel, who persuaded the BBC to spotlight indie acts. I remember seeing him play the London Palladium supporting The Sensational Alex Harvey Band, and he was as funny as he was musically talented.

Damn, could that be Angus Young (AC/DC) in the wild red hair and bowtie? :o Probably not, but the face has a strong resemblance!

No, that was our guitar player, Andy, but Angus Young was one of his heroes. We played a support gig to the brand new group AC/DC (Bon Scott version) at the Marquee club in Wardour Street, and Andy started "becoming Angus" right after that! Good Catch Billy!

  13. being a couple of years older than Cowden (stop it) I can go back to 1973, the year that London's least influential punk band was formed and disbanded on the same night. We took to the stage wearing formal gear (the damned were doing similar shit too, apart from Capt. Sensible who liked to wear a tutu) and I so wanted to be Rod Stewart......

Sid, I have to admit that I have used and abused your web site for information about gear and gear maintenance. Please keep up the good work.

that's what it's there for Bonnie! ps: I just shipped your pull out pud from JumpShack, you should have it any time now.......;)

  15. Bonnie, you bring up a very valid point. Every student/novice on the verge of buying gear should gather as much information as possible. With the availability of information via the web, from the upcoming Rigging Wiki, from Poynters (which every drop zone should have around) and from their instructors, riggers and peers, there is an abundance of information.

Then they should filter and sort that information and check and re-check before buying.

Your post struck home, because a new jumper at a dropzone that I work at was looking for gear and I got her a great deal on a Racer 2K3. Now it's no secret that I work for JumpShack on occasion, but I explained the details and differences between a one pin and two pin. I explained the perceived "pros" and "cons" between systems and she got an all black 2K3 which she was very happy with.

Until at least one person who had instructed her started saying "but it's still a piece of shit Racer." This was possibly in jest, but as a student of this instructor she has some respect for him and doesn't know whether he's serious or not and doubt starts creeping in.

Similarly, riggers in the area (other than me of course) tend to disrespect the rig because they don't know, won't learn how to pack it. Yet their own rigs are Canadian (and have Type 13 harnesses like the Racer) and are clones of other rigs and are not freefly friendly.

The Instructor using the term "POS" has previously bought a rig sight unseen from a "less than reputable dealer" who had lied about the reserve and overstuffed the reserve container (probably) causing a bent pin and necessitating a new ripcord and a "reserve swap" and I'm pretty sure had done little or no research before ordering it.

I agree with you, we tell enquirers too readily "Ask your Instructors..." but should definitely add the caveat - "then check, recheck and investigate." Damn, I remember when I got off student status in 1995 an instructor at the dz where I trained was telling ALL students to always get a round reserve and that nobody should ever consider jumping any other kind. I don't know if he's still in the sport, but if he is, I'll bet he's still telling them that too..........
