  5. nicrussell: the article quoted states the charge to be "disorderly conduct," not "public endangerment." joeyramone: i think that perhaps 736 was being a tad sarcastic about BASE not being done in Chicago before.

    US Congress

I received a letter yesterday from my Congressman, Rahm Emanuel. He seems like a stand-up guy. It was as a result of the ABP letters I sent from the ABP website. I'm sure many of you have received something similar, but here's what it says: "Dear Mr. Amodeo: Thank you for contacting me with your concerns about the issues facing backcountry parachutists. Your concerns are important to me, and I appreciate hearing from you. I will certainly keep your views in mind when considering legislation on this issue. Additionally, I encourage you to send my office any new information or updates regarding issues facing the backcountry parachutist community." That's positive, huh? The website makes writing the letters easy, too, so if you haven't done it yet, maybe it's time?
  11. Don't want to risk losing my green card with a jump. Not current right now either. I like the idea of a packing protest though, if we are sure they couldn't bust us for that. Seems like a great way to spread the message, and show some strength in numbers. But whatever happens, good luck and be safe.
  12. ABP Silver Member #1 Looking forward to the day I can legally flick the big ones in the valley. Or the smaller ones on the big lake. That day will come. Won't be any less sweet to me just cos I won't be risking arrest. Actually think it'll taste sweeter. Thanks to those working so hard. Sabre 210 - the hard-on visuals will make it difficult for me to sleep for weeks. Peace, 539.

    apologies

I never realized - until today - that I had email at DZ.com Sorry to all those who tried to contact me at that address in the last year: 570, DexterBASE, Tom A. I was joyful to see a message from the late, great Neil Q. But saddened that I hadn't replied. Neil, I'm sorry, buddy! Faber - what site did I name? And if I did... again, I'm sorry. You can email me at [email protected] So, that's all. Stay safe out there. Mark Amodeo, BASE 539.

    The End . . . ?

Nick, We haven't met yet either. But you're an inspirational soul with wonderful penmanship. I look forward to seeing you as soon as I get out to your corner of the world. Might be this year, might be next. So don't you be going anywhere, okay buddy? Mark Amodeo, BASE 539.
  15. Hello again all... I'm trying to gather as much info as possible about the well-known water-retaining structure in Switzerland. Please email me at [email protected] if you'd like to share. Thanks, 539.
  16. First of all, I'd like to once again say a huge THANK YOU to anyone who contributed to my fundraising campaign. You've helped me to raise a total of £800.00 ($1350.00) on behalf of Action Medical Research. Way to go! And again, another huge THANK YOU to: BASIC RESEARCH (www.basicresearch.com) Todd and Annie got the ball rolling for me in a grand way, by contributing some wicked prizes, right off the bat. Props to them in every respect. ASYLUM DESIGNS (www.asylumbase.com) In spite of the fact that Marty has just launched Asylum Designs, he stepped-up for me. 'Nough said. MORPHEUS TECHNOLOGIES (www.baserigs.com) Rob and Kathy, not letting things like surgery get in the way, pitched-in to help. Fantastic. VERTIGO (www.vertigobase.com) Jimmy and Marta, everyones favorite relatives come Thanksgiving, topped off the prize pool in style. ALL OF YOU GUYS ROCK. So, without further ado, congratulations to the following lucky people. My lovely wife Nicole drew the names out of the hat, and my silly dog Elliott adjudicated. And I forgot to mention the fact that we could have been bought with a nice bottle of Bordeaux, so the draw ended up being fully legit... BASE 570: You've won yourself a pair of Morpheus Technologies Big-Grab toggles, and a Morpheus patch! Good on ya! Now can you steer that damn thing, already??!! NEIL QUEMINET: You've also won yourself a pair of Morpheus Big-Grab toggles, and a Morpheus patch! Sorry mate, no red pc this time! (Remember the magic word: "Bordeaux") ANGUS HUTCHISON-BROWN: You are now the proud owner of a brand-spanking-new Vertigo stash bag! For your stash... WILLIAM WALLS: Damn, son, you got yo'self a Morpheus Technologies padded, adjustable stuff sack, for your stuff, and a Morpheus patch! SCOTT SILLOWAY: Oooh... you got a goody... the Asylum Designs package, consisting of a pilot chute, a t-shirt, a beverage cozy, and a BASEball hat! Way to go buddy! STUART MASSEY: Well, you know what's left, yeah? You won one of the awesome Basic Research packages that started all this madness! A pilot chute, a BASE logbook, and a sticker! Nice work! and finally... drum-roll please... WILL GADD: You also won one of the Basic Research packages, consisting of a pilot chute, a BASE logbook, and a sticker! Nice one, Reverend! So, there it is. Sorry to all those of you who didn't win a thing, and no, you can't have your money back! I'll contact each of the manufacturers to tell them this information, and to expect the winners to contact them directly. I'd appreciate it if you could cover shipping costs yourself (the prize pool grew after I offered to cover it personally!) However, I did offer, and I won't renege on that. Just let me and the manufacturer in question know, and I'll take care of it. They won't be covering shipping themselves. So, I guess that'll be all then. Email me if you have any questions. And again, thanks. -Mark Amodeo, BASE 539 [email protected]
  17. Hey there, I had originally intended to conduct the prize draw on August 25th (I can still raise money until September 25th). We (Team Which Way Up?) completed the Challenge in 23 hours 33 minutes... we came in 6th out of 30 teams. 21. Some more info about Action Medical Research's achievments. And remember, even if you don't live and/or jump in the UK, giving is giving, and good karma is good karma. I need your help, Action Medical Research need your help. We are all members of the awesome international BASE community, after all. We're family! Also, please don't think of it in terms of "well I don't NEED a new pilot chute"... the prizes are awesome, but the giving is really its own reward... Many thanks to those who've contributed so far... Oh, and don't forget: after a lifetime of hucking ourselves off of things, we might all be glad of an artificial hip or two...
