  1. So is left the norm in most places? Each time I have been down to my DZ they seem to favour right. (learning here, please bear with me) I am assuming by left/right you mean keeping your landing pattern either left or right while doing downwind/crosswind/upwind legs, is that correct?

Perhaps he should be given the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps he really does think the ACLU would get involved.

Probably . . . PROBABLY just not on the side that he thinks it should.

Don't you ever get bored of baiting and trolling?

I actually think you're doing the ACLU a great disservice by even suggesting it.

Baiting seems to be a big pastime here. Certain members seem to never get tired of it. Then again... some members are easier to bait than others...

Isn't calling that a near miss a misnomer? It should be call a near hit.

I mean think about it. A near miss implies you nearly missed. So the inverse of that is you totally missed?

Anyhow, those dudes should fly the pattern from what was shown.
I feel the same way about unsliced bread. What.. did you slice the bread, then unslice it? Shouldn't it be not sliced bread? Or maybe just a whole loaf? And why do we take a pee? We aren't taking anything... I hope!

  5. I have no skills with photoshop or whatever it is people are using these days, but I think this would be a good image to mess with... make it look like he is piloting a canopy.

  6. I am totally new. I was taught that you do your last leg upwind, usually. I am looking at the video on my phone, so the screen is small and I cannot see any windsocks or means of telling which direction the wind is blowing, but it seems to me both cannot be going upwind. Wouldn't it make things less chancy if folks are going in more or less the same direction?

  7. Well the books were probably the first of those remote control save the world stories. They were reasonably well written, though not my favourite. I got a much better charge from the Heinlein book Starship Troopers (definitely the book, NOT the movie), and it was making similar statements about xeonocide, dehumanization of people in war, and the political state. I would suggest Starship Troopers well in advance of Ender's Game. (again, the books, not the movies)
And Heinlein was not a total homophobic douchebag.

  8. Couldn't tell ya. How do you like Marvel Heroes? I played DC Universe Online... but some of Sony's policies piss me off.

Nevertheless, we have so badly overshot sustainability by any measure that a soft landing is out of the question.

I don't know if that is true. Yes.. we are well past sustainability with our current rate and means of consumption. But a radical shift in the way we do things would still allow us to live sustainably, even at this population. In other words, I don't see it as a population issue. I see it as a consumption issue. As in the WAY we consume. We just don't need as much as we are taking.

  11. I loved it on Firefly. It was not overdone, and I feel it created a slightly more believable experience. They did the same for BSG, with equal success.

***It's a political statement about illegal immigration and health care.

And I hate that jerky camera technique - I wish Hollywood would quit using it.

i agree. class warfare: rich vs. poor.
i'm just waiting for the Justice League movie instead.
    That'll be a long wait.

    Not an instructor.

but did a canopy course on sunday in which we were told cutting away is probably the best option (specially if highly loaded) but to practice rear riser landings up high and find your rear riser stall point in case it were to happen below your hard deck.

Same thing my PFF instructor told us.

Problems I see are that energy companies generally want economies of scale rather than safety of smallness. By building smaller plants they require more people to operate and manage. Businesses generally don't like that.

Smaller also means you can have competition from smaller companies who move into a territory and offer similar services for lower cost. Big companies HATE that. My guess is if small nuke plants were available, the large energy companies would fight to the death to keep "outsiders" from bringing any on-line.

You are right, alas. It is too bad.. smaller, decentralized is far more efficient. Tailoring energy production to local communities, using what resources they have on hand, if at all possible, would prove far more efficient. But profit over efficiency!
