  1. Worrying is using your imagination to create something you don't want. Be prepared, but don't worry about things :) Worry creates anxiety, anxiety can cause the brain to freeze up or make bad choices. The huge number of jumpers who have great jumps... they are prepared. Not worried. The jumpers who deal successfully with malfunctions, have to do cutaways, they don't let anxiety freeze them up. I mean, I am a rank newbie, but I know from the folks I have talked to and the reading I have done, canopy emergency procedures are a reasonably complicated subject, complex enough that you cannot summarize it in a paragraph or two. Which is why it is taught during the ground class. I read a fair bit about it in the Skydiver's Handbook... perhaps pick up a book on skydiving to help out :) Why drive myself crazy trying to be normal, when I am already at crazy?
  2. That is a subject that will be covered in great detail during your ground course. Why drive myself crazy trying to be normal, when I am already at crazy?
  3. Hahahahaha!!! Ay their own bills. That slays me. lol Speaking as a Canadian I am all for healthcare. What I am not for is people who do stupid things to their body and expect the rest of us to foot the bill. Like seeing cancer patients smoking cigs outside the hospital doors. But that starts a whole new topic of healthcare services and such. Why drive myself crazy trying to be normal, when I am already at crazy?
  4. Certainly nothing to brush off. Why drive myself crazy trying to be normal, when I am already at crazy?
  5. What really gets me is how parents feed their kids all this crap. I mean, as a consenting adult, if you are willing to take the chance with your own life, and pay your own medical bills to cover your health costs for your poor dietary choices. But how can any responsible parent feel it is ok to poison their kids? Why drive myself crazy trying to be normal, when I am already at crazy?
  6. That is awesome! Healthy food is the best medication. Smart eating can also help with depression and anxiety. It can help prevent cancer, strokes and heart disease. It can increase your daily energy level, help you sleep at night and wake up without feeling bagged. Why drive myself crazy trying to be normal, when I am already at crazy?
  7. It is crazy how many people only consider taste and feel in the mouth as the proper guidelines as to what to put into the body. So few people pay even the slightest attention to what effect the food has ON the body. Junk food. Candy. Fast food. Soda. Shitty all you can eat buffets. The list just goes on and on. Healthy food is tasty. It can be made quickly. It does not have to be expensive. All it takes is a conscious effort. Why drive myself crazy trying to be normal, when I am already at crazy?
  8. I understand. It takes years of education and ton of free healthcare to learn how to speak it properly Why drive myself crazy trying to be normal, when I am already at crazy?
  9. Hmm.. yes.. I guess there was a misunderstanding. I know what referring to onesself in the third person means. I am just searching for how it applies to this thread.... Why drive myself crazy trying to be normal, when I am already at crazy?
  10. Hah! Nice! I mean, um...very illegal... bad jumpers, bad! Why drive myself crazy trying to be normal, when I am already at crazy?

  12. I am not much of a gun person, but this is funny as hell! My ex father-in-law was a federal agent. He would have highway patrol units pull over the car my ex wife was being driven in, with her boyfriend (when she was in high school), put the unfortunate boy through hell Super Troopers style, then send her her father's regards. Thankfully, it was an amicable divorce... Why drive myself crazy trying to be normal, when I am already at crazy?
  13. Folks who try to force their way through a busy downtown intersection, then get stuck blocking the whole intersection when the light changes. It is so easy to prevent: If there is no room for your car on the far side of the intersection, stay put. Why drive myself crazy trying to be normal, when I am already at crazy?
  14. Thanks! I have a bit more reading to carry me through, now! Only 4 weeks left... Why drive myself crazy trying to be normal, when I am already at crazy?
  15. Blast! Youtube is blocked here at work. I will look it up when I get home! :) Why drive myself crazy trying to be normal, when I am already at crazy?
  16. I suppose not. Which was why I was hoping you might explain :) Why drive myself crazy trying to be normal, when I am already at crazy?
  17. Nice! Thanks for the links! Still not sure who is referring to themselves in the third person, though... Why drive myself crazy trying to be normal, when I am already at crazy?
  18. Who is doing that? Why drive myself crazy trying to be normal, when I am already at crazy?
  19. Hello! So, while I wait impatiently for the commencement of my AFF, I am doing a bit of reading, and watching of videos. One guy I have been following is Brian Germain, with his Safety First shows on Skydiver Radio. What are your thoughts about him? Also, are there any other sources of info you recommend? I have been going through some of the articles here, in fact. Very cool, though most of it is waaay over my head. Why drive myself crazy trying to be normal, when I am already at crazy?
  20. Exactly! Why drive myself crazy trying to be normal, when I am already at crazy?
  21. I have heard this and many variations thereof... you don't need to buy gear until you are licensed, etc. Which, for a number of reasons, is true! That said, gear is expensive, and even if you do not buy anything, if you are on a shoestring budget like myself and many others, it is a good idea to plan for the future. So even if you do not buy anything right away, and do gear rentals for a bit, you will want to get your own stuff eventually, and knowing how much it will all cost will help in planning down the road. And if you decide you don't want to continue with the sport, well, hey... now you can use that money towards a car, or vacation, or what have you. 22. That's what I sometimes do to get to sleep at night. \ "Psssst. Hey, Kerb. Wake up it's time to climb out." "Somebody wake up Hicks..." ~Apone, Aliens Why drive myself crazy trying to be normal, when I am already at crazy?
  23. One of the benefits of ebooks is that there are a large number of FREE ebooks out there. These are books that have entered the public domain after the grace period of 80 years since its author died (or something to that effect). It is a great source of literary classics, Victorian novels, and old reference books and essays. Shop carefully, though... some ebooks are better quality than others, and some are downright unreadable. Why drive myself crazy trying to be normal, when I am already at crazy?
  24. I do a fair bit of camping, hiking, and touring on my bicycle, and I love to read. I have found that my Kobo Mini suits my purposes perfectly. It is light, easy to pack, stores more than enough books, andis small enough that accidental torque pressure endangers its screen less. I love it...but still, it suits its purpose, and no more. I prefer the feel of books, and I like being able to flip pages back and forth...especially with reference books. Plus, it is hard to lend out ebooks! 25. Great...thanks! Nice to see you around here... I am starting my PFF here in a month. Perhaps we will run into each other (figuratively, I hope)! Why drive myself crazy trying to be normal, when I am already at crazy?
