Jumpsat14k 0 #1 August 25, 2003 New jumper wanting to know what the real difference is in material types and which would suit me best in my first purchase. Heard alot of chatter on the subject, any info would be great. MichaelParty like it's $19.
Blahr 0 #2 August 25, 2003 The main types are F-111 and Zero Porosity nylon. The Zero-P is more expensive and packs larger but also lasts a LOT longer.

F-111 has not been manufactured for several years. What we have is low porosity (3-5 cfm) and ZP.My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

slotperfect 7 #6 August 26, 2003 True statements already given about the material . . . just to add that regarding construction there are three canopy fabric combinations all zero-p, all low-porosity, and a "hybrid," which will have a zero-p top skin and ribs/bottom skin constructed of low-porosity material. PD's Silhouette is one example.Arrive Safely John
Chrisky 0 #7 August 27, 2003 Now, if i'm not cmpletely mistaken, the descent rate on a F111 (i'm used to calling low-P like that) is a bit higher if the Angle of Attack is the same. Basically, a common statement to be heard in many places is: "a 170 of ZeroP is about the same as a 190 of F111". That statement is not right. It may be the same in terms of descent rate, but it will differ significantly in handling and speed. I recommend that you demo some different canopies of the different materials and then decide what you like best. Because it's only you under your canopy, noone else. It's you who must feel good with it.The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Not every Swooper hooks & not every Hooker swoops ...
