goPro forever rendering times

Recommended Posts

Using Sony Vegas MS HD Plat 10 and having rendering times of 13-15 minutes with GoPro HD vs 3 minutes with old CX 12 HD footage. Footage length is the same, about 4 or 5 minutes or so. Using a windows XP system with a 3 year old quad core board.

Any advice or tips on speeding it up? Ive got a friend using a Samsung laptop and rendering in 5 minutes.

a few things:
~Be sure you're using the latest version of VMS10
~Cut the GoPro to 720 vs an odd screen resolution
~use a project resolution that is the same as your finished resolution vs your source resolution.

GoPro, Contour, and similar cameras are all AVC vs AVCHD, so they're slower. There is no standardized spec for AVC beyond its package and bitrate maximums (even then...it's not standard).
Some CPU's are optimized for these weirdnesses; others aren't.
Wait'll you see the Sandy Bridge project from Intel hitting the streets. AVC will finally scream.
For now...gotta optimize that workflow.

One other thing...
Look in your Internal Preferences.
Be SURE it's set to Multithreading (it almost always is, but there are some funky installs that shut it off.

Strike that, just realized you have Movie Studio. Internal prefs are not accessible.

Would have taken US weeks to research that information. Thanks DSE!

Another question: 720p over R2 or R3? We are using Sony Vegas 9 Platinum.

R3 is what we are all using at my DZ (about 9 or 10 instructors with GoPro HD handcams). R3 provides smoother videos for us, especially for slomo sections
