DSE 3 #1 January 7, 2008 Samsung announces a new 30p camcorder. Records to flash storage, so perfect for skydiving. I'll be allowed to handle it tomorrow, but probably not allowed to shoot w/it.
beowulf 1 #2 January 7, 2008 damn, that really looks promising. Any idea what the cost will be?
DSE 3 #3 January 7, 2008 Cost not yet announced. I collared the Samsung PR chick and she couldn't tell me. Supposed to be $1200 or less, tho. Pana has theirs being announced tomorrow too, but unless it's a big improvement over their last series encoder...it's nothing to get excited about. murrays 0 #4 January 7, 2008 Quaote from the Samsung link in DSE's post: "With the unique feature of high speed capture and super slow motion playback, the SC-HMX20C allows consumers to record fast motion at 300 frames per second for up to 10 seconds and then drastically slow down the playback of the recording." Now this would be interesting/useful to use analyzing openings.-- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
DSE 3 #5 January 7, 2008 Indeed. All you'll need is the ability to start/stop the camcorder in the middle of the skydive, since it only buffers 10 seconds.
freeflydrew 0 #6 January 7, 2008 The Sony CX7 has this feature... it's pretty sick.
murrays 0 #7 January 7, 2008 It would also be great for those jumps that last less than 10 secs from exit to opening...a lot of BASE jumps would fall inside the 10 sec time frame.-- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
frost 1 #8 January 7, 2008 Hardly cheap at $1200. Couldnt justify spending that much, considering that I can have a tested and trusted in skydiving brand and buy a CX7 for $400 less.
