DSE 3 #1 April 29, 2007 Anyone got one, how do you land it? How do you route the cutaway? Flying mine yesterday, I always have butt-slid it in so I'm not trying to run with a cam on my foot. One of the "veterans" commented that I was managing it all wrong. OK, I'm all ears. His next comment was that I needed to learn it on my own. I'm still all ears (and eyes) if there is a better way to land a shoe-mounted camera. I'm currently running the cutaway up my jumpsuit pant leg, where it comes out and hitches to my legstrap via a large caribiner. There is a swivel in the middle of the cutaway, so it bends properly around my knee. I'm not worried about the safety aspects much, it works great on the ground. But I do wonder if there is a better method of landing with this. Biggest cam I've had on it is the HC7.
Zoter 0 #2 April 29, 2007 I really messed up an ankle last summer running ,tripping and bending it 90degreeswhilst running/jumping a fence to get on a load...The next two jumps I was in quite a bit of pain but was filming and didnt want to let the team down...stupid...but I felt it was OK to do. All's I can say is I did some 'awesome' one footed landings that day.....approaching slower than usual...but with some speed to bleed....before a few hops to a graceful 'one footed stop' I'm not saying thats the right thing to do....but when you really dont wont to bear any weight on one leg...you can adapt your landing without 'spanish landing' it....thats my experience. LouDiamond 1 #3 April 30, 2007 1. Winds permitting, an accuracy type landing is ideal. By that I don't mean dropping out of the sky but coming in and stopping/flaring so that all you have to do is step down onto your feet. Sinking it in as much as possible and only letting up to get some speed for the final flare. Can be harder to do on light wind days. 2. Prior to landing, cut the mount away and using a carabiner on your chest strap, snap the camera/mount onto your chest strap. This is assuming your not interested in getting the landing footage. 3. Slide in on your feet, favoring your opposite foot.Grass and flat bottom shoes aid in this. If you are going too fast to slide it out, you can fall back on the butt slide."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
piisfish 135 #4 April 30, 2007 other option would be to "blindman" the landing When I jump my belly mount I concentrate on "avoiding the Superman" scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM
