Photoshop CS3

Recommended Posts

I haven't been impressed enough with the list of new features to bother upgrading from CS2. Its going to be an expensive upgrade for features I just do not see my self using. If I'm wrong and there is some wonderful new feature in CS3 that I missed in the product listing please let us all know. http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/photoshopcs3/releasenotes.html

I've never even attempted to use the Vanishing Point 1.0 in CS2 so I'm not sue the value in it as of yet but I see its a big driver in the CS3 software.

Adobe Bridge has been significanty improved. My fav: the new smart filters! And the start-up time has been improved to less than 5 secs on my laptop, yay!

I've been using the beta for 1 1/2 weeks now, it still got a few bugs but I'm def gonna switch over.

edit: another thing that has been majorly improved is photo stichtching, for those that use it. http://www.nikon-club-nederland.nl/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1964

I like it and will upgrade because:
1.) It is universal binary and screams on an Intel Mac (compared to CS2 running under Rosetta).
2. The new tool for creating and refining masks will save me a lot of time.
3. The Curves interface is much more comprehensive (and therefore easier to use if you know what you're doing). And, incidentally, the Brightness/Contrast controls are no longer the disaster they have been all along.

There are some good tutorials at http://www.lynda.com -- look for Deke McClelland's stuff.

Haven't tried CS3 yet, but the vanishing point tool in CS2 is amazing. I haven't used it much (not helpful for normal photo cleanup), but it can do some really amazing things. There are some video tutorials on the net that show how to use it.... so impressive.

I very much like the idea of non-destructive smart filters.
