Rig Cleaning

Recommended Posts

I got the same advice from Aggie. Being more specific: remove everything from the rig (handles, closing loops, pack data card, hook knife, etc.). Then cover all the velcro with velcro of the opposite type (put hook over pile, etc.) Tie it SECURELY in the laundry bag, and put it in a FRONT LOAD washing machine. Use cold water, and use a detergent without additives. I use Liquid Tide "Free."

I then hang the rig over a chair and let it dry for about 48 hours. Bear in mind that the inside of the webbing loops that hold the hardware will take the longest to dry.

I have washed several rigs this way, including some that were extremely dirty and tired looking.
