ok then, hypothetical situaltion here,

i have 200 jumps (in the uk) my c licence and a camera helmet,

i see alot of people with this mini digital flashy things on ,

now what would be stoping my mounting my sony handycam hi 8 camcorder to the top of a top mount helmet?

Nothing's stopping you....It's what I started with...but don't expect to be invited to video anything important due to it's lesser quality video. Gotta start somewhere tho...You'll upgrade soon enough.

Hi Wayne

there is nothing to stop you but it would be a good idea to talk it through with your CCI Ian (if you jump mostly at Peterlee as your profile suggests). Alternatively Dave Mitchell, Bryn or Chris at Peterlee will give you good advice (on jumping camera anyway;)).

That's a cool cam, but they're right, there will be no imortant stuff cuz of the loss of quality, and editing can be a pain in the ass if you're used to digital. Plus, size matters. Granted, I'm one of those freeflyers with the smallest camera on the market in a side mount helmet, so I'm used to not having to worry about this, but I don't like the idea of big stuff on my head, ready to snag lines........
