quade 3 #3 December 18, 2001 S-video is component video. The luminance and chromiance signals are separate. This allows for a cleaner dub than the composite video signal.That said, both S-video and composite video are separate from the audio.The best quality dub available on most consumer decks right now is IEEE 1394 also known as iLink or FireWire. nacmacfeegle 0 #6 December 19, 2001 Agreed, I've been editing Dv with PCs and firewire for over four years, but if a VCR has an S video socket, its more than likely an svhs unit which is reasonable quality.VHS is a more 'universal' medium than Dv.
