flycurt 0 #1 January 5, 2005 SoCal Canopy Pilots Hi, my name is Curt Swanson and I want to touch base with any competitive canopy pilots in the SoCal area. If you weren't aware, there is great news for pilots needing more from their canopy piloting experience this year. The newly formed Canopy Piloting Circuit (CPC) will deliver more emphasis on education and training, as well as more competitions to challenge your skills in ‘Oh~5. Each State (CONUS), which participates in canopy piloting, is assigned a district organizer(s). The organizer is responsible for presenting competitions within the district throughout the CP season. For the SoCal district, I will head that duty up this year and will do my best to make good things happen. I may even need a bit of help, so if you are interested…contact me. The CPC season will begin on 1 Jan and end 15 Oct. There are to be 5 CPC events during this time. This schedule and additional info will be posted here soon, if you need anything else, email me. If you are interested in improving your piloting technique and safety with 5 competitions thrown in this year, please send me an email with the following information. -Name -Home phone -Cell phone -Email address -Home DZ -Total# of HP landings (HPL) -HPL’s in last 3 months -Canopy model -Canopy size If you are interested in becoming a competition judge/course layout engineer, please send me an email with the following information. -Name -Home phone -Cell phone -Email address -Home DZ -Are you now or have you ever been a CP judge? freeflyz 0 #7 February 19, 2005 Do you have to live in SoCal to be in the Swoop meet?
flycurt 0 #8 February 19, 2005 QuoteDo you have to live in SoCal to be in the Swoop meet? No, but you have to compete in at least 4 of the 5 competitions in the region where you initially registered, to be eligible for one of the 5 slots each region may send to the CPC Championships in Oct 2005. After 2005, finishing in the top 10 at the CPC Championships will be the only way to advance to the Pro class in the CPC/PST. There was a meeting during the WCCP and the subject was how to make it fair for everyone, if people want to compete in more than one area and in more than 5 competitions. The solution was to allow people to compete as much as they can, but they must compete in 4 of the 5 regional competitions where they are registered. For score consideration outside their region, the competitors first competition score made outside of their region will be the only score accepted as their 5th score, if the competitor only has 4 regional competition scores at the end of the regular season. Any regular season competitions after your 5th, you must still pay your registration, but for the remainder of the season you will compete as a guest. Understand as a guest, you are not eligible for CPC points from that competition, but you will gain more competition experience. I will check with Jim Slaton and get confirmation or any corrections to what I wrote. There may be some deviation from this, but generally I think this is what was decided on. freeflyz 0 #9 February 19, 2005 So is there one in Arizona??
flycurt 0 #10 February 19, 2005 Not yet, not sure what's happening with AZ. No organizers have stepped forward. I think someone at Eloy might be looking at running a district there, but haven't heard anything for sure yet. SoCal is the closest district for people in AZ who want to compete for now. If you are interested in organizing, email Jim and see what's up. Curt Canopy Piloting
