sdctlc 0 #3 August 2, 2003 I thought they wre going to take the top ten from the Oregon meet. Looks like they took 19 (Ultra Class)? How is the competition going to be run? Scott C."He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
MrHixxx 0 #4 August 2, 2003 Seems like a poor selection process. One would think that the top ten overall (tour ranking) is a more valid measurement of who is the best. The swoopers I have talked to say consistency is everything... The 4th ranked overall isn't on the team, but the 37th is??? I guess it comes down to who has the backing to show up at the Country Club that day... -Hixxxdeath,as men call him, ends what they call men -but beauty is more now than dying’s when
proswoopingtour 0 #5 August 3, 2003 At first the USPA was going to use the PST tour ranking for selection of the US Team. However, they decided to just use one of the PST competitions as the qualifier for selection of the US Team. They needed a qualifier this year since Canopy Piloting (a.k.a Swooping) is not part of our Nationals yet......yet. The USPA had 20 slots, 10 for the Ultra class and 10 for the Standard class, reserved for the US Team initially just in case slots filled up by many participating countries. That's where that magic number 10 came from, just the reserved minimum slots if required. Since registration for the World Cup is comming to a close they know now there are more slots available for all countries envolved. The IPC & organizers have made 120 total slots available for the World Cup. Competitors must be sanctioned by their NAC to gain entry into the World Cup. The USPA made the PST Open in Oregon the US Qualifier for selection of the US Team which means only those qualified with the PST that attended this meet can be sanctioned by the USPA. The USPA selected the top 20 for Ultra and top 9 for the standard class. Hope this helps... SlatonAirSports.com CanopyPiloting.com
