grue 1 #1 July 4, 2013 Currently the algorithm appears to basically be: if anyone replies to one of $user's posts, and notifications are enabled, then an email goes out. What might be better, at least from my perspective: if anyone replies to one of $user's posts, and notifications are enabled, then an email goes out and a server-side flag is set, linked to $user's last viewing of the thread (which we know is tracked anyway by the "new posts in thread" system). While this flag is set, no more email notifications of replies to $user's posts in that thread are sent. Upon $user viewing that thread again, the flag is removed, and he will again receive one email advising of a reply or replies to that post. Granted the email would need to be rejigged a little to note to the recipient that there may be more than one reply. Might be too hard, nobody else might give a rat's nut, but figured I'd throw it out there :)cavete terrae.
Meso 38 #2 July 5, 2013 Thanks for sharing your thoughts. We're always interested in hearing ideas, and while we probably won't be working on this immediately, it will be taken down and added to our compilation of ideas that we can then look at in more detail and consider whether it will ultimately be useful or not.
