slug 1 #52 May 16, 2006 Quotenow shopping for a full figured jump suit. *** But look at all the money you saved on LEAD! Hi We always told people rather than wear the lead just drink X amount of water to gain the required weight and don't pee until after the jump was over. Then there was always the nerf football cut in half worn inside the front of the jumpsuit for the aero dynamic look. R.I.P. R.I.P.

tbrown 26 #54 May 20, 2006 Quote Surplus cheapo rigs really were the way to afford incredibly cheap gear back in the day. Pricewise, no real equivalent today, unless someone wants to unload their old Nova on you. how much.....what colors ?????? :o) My first canopy was a 28 ft. cheapo, in upstate NY. Bought it for $45, complete with a sleeve and MA-1 pilot chute. Got a surplus 4 pin harness/container system for $65 and for another $125 bought a complete 24' surplus reserve, with container and MA-1 from Lincoln Parachute Service in Nebraska. So that's about $235 for the complete rig, $40 for a used Altimaster II, maybe $50 - 60 for a jumpsuit. Wore workboots and a motorcycle helmet and I was in bidness, a real skideever ! The color was the best part, the previous owner was a girl who tie dyed the canopy purple and pink. There wasn't another one like it, it was THE psychedelic canopy & I just wish I had a picture. When I moved up to a PC I sold it for $40 to a young lady who was just getting started and she loved it even more than I did. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity ! skr 1 #55 May 24, 2006 I don't know how it actually happened but the order I remember hearing these words is: At first there were just parachutes, meaning mostly the 28 ft flat circular, plus a few T-10s, and the 24 ft reserves. Then the Lopo (Low Porosity) came out from Security. It was 1.6 oz per square yard vs 1.1 for the C-9s. Then Lyle started calling the 28 ft flat circulars Cheapos in Skydiver. People also spoke of "one-one"s and "one-six"s. Then PCs and Crossbows and other stuff came out and people started calling cheapos rags. But that's just the order that I remember hearing the words.
