flier 0 #1 June 6, 2002 I'm planning to go through AFF very soon and was wandering if taking the course at a non-USPA affiliated dropzone will present any problems for me in getting my A license down the road. Thanks in advance.
drenaline 0 #2 June 6, 2002 If you take the course from a USPA instructor, everything should be ok, just make sure that the instructor is in teaching (or current) status. S/L-I for static line course, AFF-I for AFF training.Affiliated DZ is for DZ who want to pay for publicity, I think."Life is full of danger, so why be afraid?"drenaline

riggerrob 558 #4 June 6, 2002 You can earn a USPA license provided you completed all the tasks, can convince a currently-rated USPA Instructor to sign your logbook and administer the written test. Most non-USPA DZs employ legitimate USPA-rated instructors, it is just the drop zone operators who decide not to pay money to USPA, usually for political reasons. Keep in mind that to become a DZO, you have to be a cocky, arrogant, entrepreneur who believes that he can run a better DZ than anyone else. Most DZs operate by standards close to USPA. Some non-affiliated DZs operate with higher standards than USPA.
hobbes4star 0 #5 June 7, 2002 when i first started to learn to dive i started at a dz that was not USPA. but after i had graduated from student status i went to a USPA dz and all i had to do was get a uspa membership and do a dive with a instructor. wasn't a big deal.why jump when you can fly
