matttrudeau 0 #1 November 28, 2002 Has anyone had any trouble traveling on the airlines with your gear and hook knife? I'm just wondering how that's being handled. Thanks...
falxori 0 #2 November 28, 2002 there are many threads here about that. but basically... shouldn't be any problem with the rig itself, but you'd want to put the hook knife in the bag you check in and not in your carry on. i'd take the rig onboard, and put everything else (knife, helmet, alti...) in my suitcase O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero." rgoper 0 #3 November 28, 2002 you may get away with it, but with the new homeland security system just in place i can tell you from personal experience having traveled through many airports, stateside, and abroad your check in to cargo bay goes through x-ray, and they will see it, so be prepared to either lose it, or explain for at least one hour to a bunch of imbiciles why you are in possession of it. there are signs that clearly state "no knives or sharp instruments past this point", at least 5 of them on the way to the counter, this refers to check in, as well as carry on baggage. just lately, i observed security searching a man's suitcase after x-ray because he had a personal nail clipper/filing kit in it, they took it away from him right then and there, he put up a good arguement, but in the end they still had his property. airline security is getting tough. today, in kenya south africa, a 757 400 series passenger jet was taking off and was fired upon by two SAMS, shortly after that, four imbiciles with some C-4 drove into a hotel and detonated their deadly cargo, blew the whole place to smitheriens, no body count as of yet. the passenger jet was escorted back to the airport by military aircraft and landed without further incident. and of course it was al-queda.--Richard-- "We Will Not Be Shaken By Thugs, And Terroist"

Interested readers might want to read an article published by Salon magazine, outlining exactly what the airlines think of the risk of being hit by a SAM over LAX.
