What's the most mals anyone's had

Recommended Posts

I was wondering who's had the most cutaway and reserve rides (not test jumpers or intentional cutaways). I know 2 people who have had 11 in about 5000 jumps. My reason for asking is, if you have plenty of them do they get less freaky? Not that my recent mal freaked me, but it certainly wiped the smile off my face for a few minutes.

My AFF instructor once said to me "there's only 2 sorts of skydivers - those that have had a mal and those that are going to". Just wondering, statistically, when to expect my next one.

John Woo, a deaf skydiver, has had 13 in 2500 jumps, but none in the last 10 years, as far as I know. Most of them were on the old Pegasus canopy, which had a tendency to malfunction. It was taken off the market for that reason.

I think ScaryPerry had 11 last year...or maybe it was 18 can't remember. You'll need to PM him.

I know that Sven Zimmerman had at least 8 last season here (he has over 10,000 skydives) and flies a very small canopy. I believe all were spinning mals.

Roger Nelson claimed close to a B license on mals. I think most of those had to be on "pinky" and there is a tape floating around showing that Spinletto in action.

I've got 18 chops, + 2 straight reserve rides (One when still on rounds and one prem)

Of my 18 chops, 7 are from CRW wraps/entanglements and 7 are from Tandems. The other 4 are 2 spinners and 2 broken lines.

No chops now for about 700 dives... but I'm jumping Wingsuits, so it's just a matter of time, I guess...:D

Wrong answer.
Pegasus was a great canopy - back in the day.
Pegasus production ended when Django got sued out of business for patent infringement.
They re-opened the next day as Glide Path. GP's new line of canopies used the same top skin patterns with different line attachment points. I repacked a Fury reserve yesterday.

I have a friend that has been jumping for 30+ years and he had to get his riggers ticket because he had a malfunction each week for (I don't know how many years), he couldn't afford to pay a rigger anymore.
I could call and clarify if needed.
my power is beyond your understanding.
