Hard Openings and Fatalities

Recommended Posts

Does anybody have any hard data of jumpers who have been fatality injured by a hard opening?
Dates, canopy types and info from autopsy reports would be helpful.

Thanks

I read a report from a tandem site(i forget) that was refering to riser strength, but it stated that most humans will have passed out at 9G's and 15-20 G's are enough to kill a person. The point was that with non damaged tandem risers and a load of 350lbs you would have to experience a opening of 15G's(=5250#) to break a riser with a strength of #5000 According to kallends power point a 70(kg?) jumper experiences 4 G's on a 125 mph deployment that lasts 2 seconds. That is just something to think about while you research the data. It is my best recall of the info anyways someone please correct anything they see wrong.
