RSL vs SKYHOOK

Recommended Posts

An RSL is a simple device that effectively pulls the reserve handle when you cut away from a fully or partially deployed main parachute. This helps prevent the "no reserve pull" fatalities that we see with some regularity in the sport. RSL's are available on nearly all containers.

A skyhook is a more complex device that does the same thing. It also uses the drag of the main parachute to assist the reserve pilot chute in pulling the reserve out, thus opening the reserve more rapidly in many situations. Skyhooks are available on a few containers.

what's the practical difference between these two devices? I want to buy my son a beginner rig...should I look for one in particular or install which one?

RSL is available for all rigs nowadays.

Skyhook is just for some and mostly can be got as ordering a new H/C.
