kallend 1,625 #1 Posted June 14, 2023 Analysis of the revenue generated by IRS audits vs. the cost of those audits. https://policyimpacts.org/research/67/a-welfare-analysis-of-tax-audits-across-the-income-distribution?itid=lk_inline_enhanced-template Bottom line - the $20B the GOP cut from the IRS budget likely will cost the USA some $240B in lost revenue. So much for the GOP lip service about deficits and the debt.

So much for the GOP lip service about deficits and the debt. The attitude of the GOP with regards to the IRS and taxation is akin to treason. Its well off people that warrant investigation the most. That have the largest and most questionable claims. Not the average working Joe. They paint the IRS as the enemy and the funds they generate as funding evil. “Instead of adding 87,000 new agents to weaponize the IRS against small business owners and middle America, this bill will eliminate the need for the department entirely by simplifying the tax code with provisions that work for the American people and encourage growth and innovation,” said Rep. Earl “Buddy” Carter, a Republican from Georgia Since when is the enforcement of the act "weaponizing"? Edited June 15, 2023 by Phil1111

It is amazing that they have tricked families making 55k dollars a year that lived in random backwaters to cheer for tax cuts that benefit the ultra rich. These are the same people who are high fiving each other after their representatives cut their healthcare benefits.

Phil1111 911 #8 June 19, 2023 "Imagine IRS agents descending upon America like a swarm of locusts," Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, warned in an interview with Fox Business. "And by the way, these IRS agents aren't there to go after billionaires. They're there to go after you. They're there to go after your small business. They're there to go after your family." and from the IRS "Let's be very clear about what these resources are and are not doing," Sarin(IRS spokesman) said. "These resources are not raising audits on any small business or any household that makes under $400,000 a year." All moot now that republicans got their way with cuts to IRS.
