Tokter 0 #51 June 22, 2010 QuoteQuote..and 83,119 were killed in the USA between 2004 and 2008 And there were 300M in the US from 2004-2008, how many Americans were in MX at that time? QuoteIn addition, a million American citizens live in Mexico Source: http://www.state.gov/r/pa/ei/bgn/35749.htm And about 18 million Americans visit Mexico each year. QuoteYou don't seem to grasp statistics. Yes I do, 83% of them are made up on the spot, and I don't trust one that I did not forge myself. What else is there to grasp? Not including the tourists since I don't know how long they stay on average: 1,000,000 / 200 = 5,000 300,000,000 / 83,119 = 3,
DaVinci 0 #52 June 22, 2010 QuoteAnd about 18 million Americans visit Mexico each year. A visit is different than being there most of the year. QuoteYes I do, 83% of them are made up on the spot, and I don't trust one that I did not forge myself. What else is there to grasp? Exposure time to incident rate is a good place to start. But if you don't know how long the person is in each place we can't use that. Murder per capita is another great place to start. http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_mur_percap-crime-murders-per-capita MX is #6 US is #24 While that does not break down by visitor/citizen... It does show that MX has more murders per population than the US. QuoteNot including the tourists since I don't know how long they stay on average: Well basically you are just making up data sets then. Approximately 20 million Americans visit Mexico each year (http://tinet.ita.doc.gov/outreachpages/download_data_table/2007_US_Travel_Abroad.pdf) To just ignore them to make a data set is just dishonest. What do I make up? According to the Department of State website, 1 Million American live in Mexico. If you use the mentioned 200 murders then the rate is already lower than here, add the 20 million tourists and it's going to be even lower. That's the only point I'm making....not exactly sure what your point is though.
Gato 0 #54 June 24, 2010 Wow...I hadn't looked at this thread for a couple of days, and I had no idea it had been moved to SC. As many people have alluded, this isn't really an "optional" trip...assuming I wish to remain employed by this company. I will be with a group at almost all times, but I'll still keep my head on a swivel. Thanks for all the um....advice......and for the warnings. I honestly didn't intend for this discussion to go down this road, but who does't like all this lively banter?T.I.N.S.
