Israel's 10 worst errors of the decade

Recommended Posts

An interesting article.

It was a decade framed by a fundamentalist Palestinian belief in salvation through suicide and a fundamentalist Israeli belief in salvation through brutality.

The decade ends as it began, clueless, hopeless, exhausted. For having lived through this, we are, all of us, somehow much more than 10 years older, yet none the wiser. In fact, what passed for our wisdom had died with our dreams. Socialist collectivism, rabid Revisionism, Reagan-Thatcher neo-conservatism, none of them has anything to teach us.

For both peoples, the lessons of this decade are unbearable. No Greater Israel, no Peace Now, no Wholly Palestinian Palestine, no Two State solution. Perhaps this is truly what the messiah has decided to settle for: a situation in which every single inhabitant of the land is unhappy to the same extent.

Original Article with list

Not surprisingly, the siege of Gaza made the list.

Chris, can you point to Israel on a map? I'll give you 10 points buddy!

Also, Chris, for extra credit; name someone that denouces the people of Israel as human beings and calls for their extinction via nuclear weapons...

After that you can show me "Israel's Worst Errors"

Which version of Israel would you like pointed out? Should I include the illegally occupied territory, also?

Perhaps you'd care to tell us which country has violated the most UNSC resolutions?

oh, I know, I know.
it's the country who has an automatic majority against it of 22 arab countries, 56 Islamic countries and usually the 118 Non-Aligned countries.

they can pass a resolution that the earth is flat. it doesn't make it true.

You seem to be confused about the makeup of the UNSC.

doesn't change the point.

the only thing the keeps the UNSC from being completely irrelevant is the US vetos that keeps the automatic resolutions against Israel at bay.

run a search and see how many times Israel was "put on trial" compared to any (or all) other countries (you can start with the human rights council, where Israel is pretty much the only thing on the agenda).

my only point is that saying Israel is "guilty" because the UN says so, is a joke.

as for Gaza, show me one example in history where a country kept an open border with a neighbour who has openly declared and waged war against it.
just to remind you, Israel is not in Gaza and I'm pretty sure the border would have been open if rockets weren't flying over it.

Actually, US veto power is the primary thing that keeping Israel from being held responsible for their illegal actions and war crimes.

I found it interesting, and I certainly don't fall into the group you mentioned. Nor do I blindly cheerlead for Israel. I prefer to view the situation objectively, and recognize that neither side can take the moral high road.

One only needs to examine your posting history on the topic to recognize that you're heavily biased. You are, however, free to continue cheerleading for Israel all you want. Or, if you prefer, you could add something relevant to the discussion.

you mean "put on a show trial where the outcome is known no matter what" ?

as if the UN is not already obsessed with Israel.
too bad it didn't find the time (or will) to spend some more time on places like Ruwanda, Darfur, Sri Lanka, etc.

What are you talking about? What does that have to do with the UNSC? What is typically known no matter what is that the US will use its UNSC veto power to prevent Israel from being held accountable for their illegal actions.

I have tried pointing out facts to you ..but you are incapable of learning the history of the area.
Do I think the Israelis have done some bad things... yes... OMG.. not cheerleading for a moment.. go figure...

BUT the things their enemies have perpetrated for the last 100 years have created the situation. The Arab support of Germany and it efforts to exterminate Jews comes to mind and the atrocities against Jewish people by their Arab "neighbors" also comes to mind..

But you can’t come to acknowledge those historical facts or current events. You can only spout propaganda from those who wish to destroy Israel in any way they can.

I have said it before... IF Israel put down their arms and tried to live in peace they would be exterminated within days....

If the Palestinians wanted peace and stopped attacking Israel, peace would break out for a few moments till Iran.. Saudi Arabia.... Syria.. or a host of others stepped in to continue the work they started.... Their support of Hamas and Hezbollah and their desire to finish the job they started back years ago in their own countries will continue.

How many Jews are there in the countries that are trying to wipe Israel off the map again????

How much land and wealth did those countries take from the Jews they killed or ran out of their countries…ANSWER 3 times the amount that the Palestinians lost… the ones who ran away because they could not tolerate living in Israel and did not stay and become a part of Israel like some of their Arab Neighbors.. who did stay and are living there to this day in peace… when the Arabs in surrounding countries will let them.

Of course, why would anyone want to support the only thriving democracy in a region that has been in decline for centuries?:S

If you're going to be objective and cite the UN in the context of legitimacy, then why not cite the UN partition of 1947? Israel accepted it. The Arabs did not.
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

What are you talking about?

what i'm talking about is that the UN is not an unbiased body and its resolutions cannot be taken as fair.

Specifically, I was asking about the "show trials." To what trials are you referring?

Your correct about the UN being biased. Since Israel is a full member, and Palestine is not, the organization is inherently biased in Israel's favor w/r/t to the interests of the two groups.

The pro-Israel bias in the UNSC is far stronger.

to what would have happened to Israel if the US didn't use its veto. the automatic majority of the arab/muslim would have turned it into a circus (even more than it is now).

Accountable for what? To which UNSC resolution violations are you referring? It's absurd to think that the UN has given Hamas a pass while persecuting Israel.

No one is claiming that Israel is the only country doing bad stuff. They just never seem to be held accountable for the bad stuff they do.

US foreign policy w/r/t Israel is a major, if not the primary cause of much of our international troubles. Without a doubt we need to reconsider our support.
