My primary beef with this is not that his community protested his deportation but that they rioted and used thuggery and intimidation to physicall prevent our officials from carrying out the lawful deportation order.
I can't find any reports of a riot. Civil disobedience and riots are two very different things.
QuoteAgreed. Any of those who participated in the riots should be charged for it and deported if they were not born here.
Most of the people there were likely citizens. You should know that born citizens and naturalized ones are equal in Canada; they can't be deported. For those non-citizens who were there, if there was in fact a riot, yes they should face an immigration hearing. What I saw on the video was a peaceful demonstration much like the kind you see on the streets of Vancouver every day for a ridiculous array of causes, and much more lawful and peaceful than your average labour picket; shit they weren't even blocking traffic.
That said it pisses me off that religious types think they can use their delusion centre as a sanctuary from the law. The Jesus people did the same thing in the hoity toity side of Van for a couple of months a few years back. You can bet your bottom dollar the cops didn't break down the doors of St. Andrew's

In the second case there was no riot. In the first case they surrounded the car and intimidated the immigration officials into turning around. In the second case their mere presence was intimidation enough given the first attempt to deportQuote***Agreed. I know people will accuse me of all kinds of things (redneck, racist, inolerant....yadda yadda yadda...etc.) for this but any country should have the right to deport anyone not born there if the circumstances merit it. A country should be able to put it's well being ahead of individual agendas. There is absolutely no reason why those protestors who physically blocked the first deportation order should not be deported themselves if they were not born here.
The threat of deportation prevents filth from bringing their filth tendencies with them. It protects Canada.

QuoteThere are no second class citizens in Canada.
So what about citizens of german descent who were found to have lied about their wartime record? Or is that different?
It is in the best interest of the county to make sure that we are bringing in people who will respect our laws even when they disagree with it. There is absolutely no reason why we should not retain the right to remove someone not born here if he breaks our laws. This is a way of ensuring that those who come here act to preserve the values of our nation rather than undermine them. If I moved to the US or Mexico I would have no problem with having that rule applied to me. If I cannot abide by American or Mexican law I will not move to those countries. Why should we allow people to come here and trample over our laws in the interest of enforcing their communities agenda?

Yes, it was different; they gained their citizenship under false pretenses.

I have to disagree with you there. You are suggesting that all naturalized citizens be 'on probation' for life. There is no seniority list for citizens nor should there be. Once we let someone into the club, they are in the club unless they decide to leave. Besides, the behavior these people are displaying is perfectly in line with Canadian values; university students, gay activists, labour unionists, Christian refugee advocates do this sort of thing all the time. We do not live in the US, we do not send in the swat team every time there is civil disobedience in a case like this. The fact is you would be mildly annoyed if these were white, old stock, Christian Canadians but it infuriates you because they are brown.
I suppose you thought the Army should have just mowed down the Natives at Oka. I was pissed too at the time, but they proved we can settle these things without violence. We just need a little patience.

Huge presumtion on your part. Huuuge! You are accusing me of racism. Where have I once indicated that brown is the issue? You are blatantly playing the race card and you know it. If someone moved here from Ireland and broke the law I would be thrilled to send him back. As a matter of fact if you look at the recent thread on Ireland being British I made exactly that point and I myself am of Irish descent. Go take a look at the comment I made there where I made it clear that I would be glad to weed out any filth from Ireland. I should not bother to ask you to look because every time someone like you gets on the race card playing bandwagon you tend to see and hear what you want. Does my not being a good little comlacent guilt ridden white boy who extends special exemtions to minorities makes me a racist in your eyes? Your comment suggests so. Sorry but my not being willing to bend over and spread my cheeks in the interest of political correctness does not make me a racist as much as the PC crowd would like to suggest otherwise. I am not responding to these protestors any differently than I would to an Irish bunch physically blocking the deportation of one of their own as much as you would like to suggest otherwise.
QuoteI suppose you thought the Army should have just mowed down the Natives at Oka. I was pissed too at the time, but they proved we can settle these things without violence. We just need a little patience.
First, whenever someone prefaces an argument with the words "I suppose you think...." I know I am not in for a constructive debate but rather a barrage of PC straw man arguments and race baiting.
Second, I have actually been strongly vocal about first nations affairs and have actually sided with them on most issues, in particular the recent ipperwash Dudley george affair. I certainly would not have aproved of the army mowing them down and I am not at all sure what on earth in my statements left you with that impression. I suspect you are seeing what you want to see. But don't let the evidence stop you from playing the race card.
Third. Why on earth would you think I would want the natives mowed down? Because I suggested that the riot police be there n full gear to deal with any escalation as neccessary? Again this suggests a preparedness stance, certainly not the violent outcome that you would like to suggest I was proposing.
