Hooray for Iraq!

Recommended Posts

Agreed, good news for Iraq. Now if we could just get a good voter turn out here in America we wouldn't have to look for it over there and we wouldn't have the leadership that we now. Maybe their democracy will work out better than ours.
As for bin Laden sure, he's a jerk but let's save that for a relevant separate thread, where it should be.

Yeap, I agree and hope that this is a truely a step forward ... as usual only time will tell.
They've had a really shitty time from all sides and deserve a break.

Just heard on the news.... they're suggesting an 80% turnoutB|

Looks like the voter turnout may put many American & British elections to shame.

The article is claiming around 75% turnout. Which is shit when you compare it voter turnout under Saddams rule:

Iraq - Saddam Wins 100 Percent in Referendum with 100 Percent Turnout - 11,454,638 say yes, 0 say no

From Reuters -

Saddam Wins 100 Percent in Referendum
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraqi President Saddam Hussein won 100 percent of votes in a referendum for a new term in office, official results showed on Wednesday.
Saddam's top deputy Izzat Ibrahim, reading official results at a news conference in Baghdad, said turnout was also 100 percent in Tuesday's referendum.

Nearly 12 million Iraqis were eligible to answer a simple "Yes" or "No" for another seven-year term for Saddam, who has ruled Iraq for 23 years through the tight grip of the military and police.

The authorities had urged voters to turn out in force to show massive support for Saddam in the face of U.S. threats of military action and President Bush's declared desire to remove him from power.

The United States has dismissed the vote and said it lacked any credibility.

You seem confused about the term " turn out": which means the Percentage who voted from the pool of people able and registered to vote regardless of WHOM they vote for

Of course in your deep hatred comment you left out the explanation that you actually believe that winning 100% of the votes in someone's cause in popular election is possible.

Thanks for sharing your thougths.....

You are being sarcastic I assume...you do know what the consequences were for not voting/not voting for Saddam under his rule?

Right or wrong on the whole issue of the war, a 75% turnout under the threat of violence seems a rather remarkable figure.
