lawrocket 3 #1 June 23, 2005 http://news.yahoo.com/s/chitribts/20050622/ts_chicagotrib/whitehouseparespicksfortopcourt Thsi could get interesting. The article makes it sound like Gonzales is getting close attention. I trust a trial balloon like this. I also think that a Gonzales appointment would be pretty neat. It would be a fantastic confirmation, politically. "Conservatives" would have problems with his views on abortion, and "liberals" would be horrified at the thought of another senior minority who is viewed as "conservative." Who will block him? Both parties will be racing to avoid being the ones who block him, while off the record, both parties will want him blocked. Which may lead to a smooth confirmation. Scalia on the top in a separate confirmation? THAT would be groovy. Though he's let me down a couple of times (having sold out to big government) it would be a good thing. I also think Thomas may stand a chance of being Chief Justice, if he wanted it. Now, wouldn't THAT be interesting? My wife is hotter than your wife. StreetScooby 5 #2 June 23, 2005 Isn't Gonzales the guy who approved the "Guantanamo Torture Memo"? Is it true that Scalia had a woman's tape recorder confiscated, by force, at one of his talks? Any idea why he did that, if true? Not trying to flame, just looking for information. While I'm a middle of the road conservative, I'm starting to believe the pendulum needs to swing the other way for a little while...We are all engines of karma
lawrocket 3 #3 June 23, 2005 Yes, I believe Gonzales IS the guy who procured one of the memos. Thread here: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1109724#1109724 And Scalia DID have the tape confiscated pursuant to the rules of his address. Thread here. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1024992#1024992 My problems with both are in those threads. My wife is hotter than your wife.
