New canopy

Recommended Posts

Nice start.

If you're going to use bedsheets, then the size depends on whether you're using percale, muslin, or sateen, and also on the thread count. A canopy made out of 400-count percale can be a whole lot smaller than one made out of 120-thread-count muslin.

As long as you're going with bedsheets, I'd suggest that E thread can be used for suspension line. The canopy will be really really big, and you'll need a shitload of them. That way the parasitic drag won't be quite as great. If you test it in a wind tunnel, you can check the air deflection behind the first set so that the other 47 linesets can be placed appropriately.

The biggest problem will be finding an airplane big enough to take the resulting rig B|

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

[sarcasm]
how many queen-sized bed sheets do I need to sew together to make a canopy wingloaded at 1.2:1?

And do you recommend Packing twine or shoestrings for suspension lines?

Are these the only supplies available? Are you planning an escape from a prison......plane?
