millertime24 8 #1 November 6, 2008 Is it ok to leave my canopy unpacked in my appartment or will ambient light degrade the material over time?Muff #5048
Bertt 0 #2 November 6, 2008 Over a really long time it will. For a few days, it won't make any difference. What will make a difference is the stuff that gets spilled on it, the damage done by stepping on it, etc. In other words, if you don't want to pack it, at least protect it by putting it in a garbage bag or something similar and setting it out of the way.You don't have to outrun the bear. hackish 8 #4 November 7, 2008 Depends on what you call ambient light. The last day of jumping it was cloudy and I politely reminded a jumper to put their rig out of the light. They wrongly claimed that you needed direct sunlight to have UV. Personally I'd rather jam it in a garbage bag to protect it than leave it laying about. If you leave it out in a spare room you may be exposing it to UV through a window. -Michael
BUBLHED 0 #5 November 7, 2008 extra large gear bag from a scuba shop. Carry everything including your unpacked rig. I did it for years.ATTACK LIFE ! IT'S GOING TO KILL YOU ANYWAY!!!!
millertime24 8 #6 November 7, 2008 Its nothing like that. Basically its just light that bounces in off the walls and whatnot. No direct exposure. Not to worry though. Its packed now. Muff #5048
erdnarob 1 #7 November 7, 2008 Storage of a parachute equipment takes some precautions: 1) if you don't jump it for more than 3-5 months unpack it. 2) store it preferably in a coton bag to allow humidity to get out and to protect it from dust 3) store it in a dark place. Avoid absolutely long exposure to fluorescent light (it generates UV light) 4) keep it at about 72 degrees (F) and and 72% of relative humidity. BTW those to figures are what makes a house confortable.Learn from others mistakes, you will never live long enough to make them all.
