phoenixlpr 0 #26 April 29, 2008 Quote I've got more than 1000 jumps with no altimeter at all. I guess it was not the first 1000 or at least not the first 1000 when you had more than 15 sec of freefall...

jlevin 0 #28 April 29, 2008 This is perhaps a bit off-topic, but do you guys know the difference between a Neptune and a Neptune 2. Is it just software? I can't find any store that sells neptune 2, only neptune. I'm still doing my AFF jumps with student gear, but I've started looking for stuff to buy and the Neptune 2 looks interesting. Is it a good choice for a beginner or should I get an analog altimeter?
virgin-burner 1 #29 April 29, 2008 î think its software only, but i'm not sure.. if you're not sure yet what to do later in your skydiving, get a mechanical as someone already said.. safe investment anytime. you can still get something more dedicated.“Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. pilotdave 0 #30 April 29, 2008 The neptune2 is a software update. There is a hardware change too, but it was actually incorporated in all neptunes quite a long time ago without being announced. Any new neptune you buy now will be a neptune2. But for your first altimeter, I'd recommend an analog one like an alti-2 galaxy. http://www.alti-2.com. FIY if you really like the idea of the metal case, Alti-2 is coming out with an N3 later this year and it has a metal case. Also it's estimated price is half of the ruggedized neptune You can check out the full specs on it here: http://forum.altimaster.com/showthread.php?t=
jlevin 0 #32 April 29, 2008 I had a feeling you'd recommend a mechanical altimeter. But I really like electronic gadgets. Thanks for the tips!
