Putting a CD onto your MP3 player

How the heck do I record songs from a CD to my computer so I can download them onto my MP3 player? Can you use Napster's software?

I have Windows XP.

You need to rip them to your hard drive using either Windows Media Player or ITunes for PC.

What player is it?

If it's an Ipod then it's a matter of dragging them to the player using Itunes.

Not sure about the Napster thing though.

I don't use Napster, I use Music Match - but you can use Windows Media Player to rip a CD to .mp3. It's fairly easy.

I have actually never used Mindows Media Player for a CD. Is it pretty easy to follow once I am in there?

The player that I use for CDs is Dell's music player. Not sure exactly what it is called.

I have an Ipod and I just insert the cd in the drive, when I plug in the ipod, the screen comes up with the cd song list, then I select any or all songs to download onto the ipod.

When you open it there is a tab at the top called 'RIP' - with the CD in the drive it iwll automatically select the songs and you just click "rip music".

I meant what mp3 player are you using? If it's an Ipod then you should be able to use Itunes for everything.

WMP is pretty easy, just insert your cd in the cd drive, go to my computer, right click on the drive and select "rip music using wmp"

I am using a Sandisk. I have always used Napster to drag mp3 onto it and it is really easy, but I want to put song from a cd on it now and had never done it.

No problemo dude. In that case i'd rip with WMP and then open it on your hard drive with Napster and drag across.

I remember when ripping a CD was a lengthy process. Command line based and tedious. You have to first rip to a WAV file (praying your CD drive could do it so you didn't have to play/record through the sound card) then figuring out which codec was the best. CDEX was the greatest program ever because it would do the two steps in order for you AND read the CD information from CDDB. It still took an hour to rip a whole CD, but that was still faster than trying to find a leech-friendly FTP site or IRC bot to download the songs from at blazing dial-up speeds.

Another good piece of audio ripping software is called exact audio copy although itunes, etc will work.

Well, I successfully transferred music from 2 CDs to my Mp3 player. I used Windows Media Player for everything and it worked really slick.
