But hey, Mendota is just "UP" the road from Peru! ;)

Who'd have ever 'thunk' there would be one of the better DZ's in the country, just right around the corner huh ?! B|

As I mention earlier, life time Bears Fan !

About the time all that Bear mainia was going on, our team was doing a night demo into Meigs...

Winds were cookin' toward the lake so we took the spot in a ways...I was last out, and after orbiting for almost an hour, my legs were numb causing me to kinda just roll out the door...NO idea where I was.

Getting face to earth in free fall, I was dead nuts over the Bears emblem 50 yard line of Soldiers Field! B|

Stadium was empty, but the field was lit~

It was a Catholic Priest seeing the Vatican! :)

I still have that image permanently ingrained! :)

Yup

I started jumping in Hinckley. I never knew Skydive Chicago was so close by. I just happened to drive through Hinckley one day on my way home from Aurora and saw their sign. That's all it took for me.:)

I started in '76 in Annawan, mile marker 33 on Rt.80...

I use to go up to Hinckley now & then, that's where I met Roger and Carl Nelson. The Freak Brothers!

I lived in Schaumburg and West Aurora. I mainly jumped in Hinckley while I was there, especially since my house in West Aurora was only 15 miles away.

Although, I have some really good memories while at the cessna boogies I went to in Minier. I am glad I took Sunshine's advice and came down for those.

What I remember best of Illinois Valley: "Bombs Away!!!"

Goudha is for Buddha, and that's good enough for me!

Remember the song about "Cruisin' on L-S-D" ...that described the ride, going from the North end down?! B|

...something about the busted glass, from the rush hour wrecks, at the "S" ...making the same sound as driving on snow.

yeah i do, but forgot who sung it

Found it - 1971 "Lake Shore Drive" by Aliotta-Haynes-Jeremiah

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aliotta-Haynes-Jeremiah

There’s a road I’d like to tell you about,

Is in my hometown
Lake Shore Drive the road is called,
And it’ll take you up or down
From rats on up to riches 15 minutes you can fly
Pretty blue lights along the way,
Help you right on by.
And the blue lights shining with a heavenly grace
Help you right on by.

And there ain’t no road just like it,
Anywhere I’ve found
Running south on lake shore drive headed into town
Just snakin' on by on L.S.D. flying that troubled bownd

And it starts up north from Hollywood; water on the drivin’ side
Concrete mountains rearing up those shadows just about 5
Sometimes you can smell the green if your mind is feeling fine
There ain’t no finer place to be then running Lake Shore Drive
And there’s no peace of mind in pace you see riding on Lake Shore Drive

And there ain’t no road just like it,
Anywhere I’ve found
Running south on Lake Shore Drive headed into town
Just snaking on by on L.S.D. flying that troubled bownd

And it’s Friday night and you’re looking clean, too early to start the rounds
10 minute ride from the gold coast’s back, make sure your pleasure’s bound
And it’s 4 o’clock in the morning and all the people have gone away
Just you and your mind and Lake Shore Drive tomorrow is another day
And the sun shine fine in the morning time tomorrow is another day.

And there ain’t no road just like it,
Anywhere I’ve found
Running south on Lake Shore Drive headed into town
Just snaking on by on L.S.D. flying that troubled bownd.
:)

Where is my fizzy-lifting drink?

I don't. But I last jumped there probably about 13 years ago. Man am I old!

They had one hanger while I was a student. They were just starting on the 2nd hanger when I started jumping in Wisconsin (closer to where I was living).

I lived in Arlington Heights and Elk Grove before moving away from that nasty cold! ;)

I did some jumps in Hinckly probably about 10 or so years ago. And some in Morris. Never jumped at SDC until I moved away and took my hubby there for a visit.

Grrr...you think YOU'RE old! [:/]

Ole Jack who the air strip is named after has been the club cornerstone for about 40 years...I'm sure you saw him there, just probably thought he was an old fart!
