It looks to me like a ram air canopy with the tail towards the ship, but if it's pulling the ship forward, then the wind would have to be coming from the wrong direction to inflate the canopy, no? Or maybe those 4 small white bits in the centre are the openings through which it inflates, but I'm having trouble understanding how that would provide sufficient pressure at the outside to keep the ends inflated.
